ESPN loves to link current stories about players to their most recent game. For example earlier in the day they had the story about J O'Neal, his left handedness and how he's East MVP. And then they played Portland tonight. So now it reads: Smooth-shooting Jermaine O'Neal looked good in Wednesday night's 80-71 win over Portland -- so good he should be the East's MVP. but when you click on the 80-71 win --> bam! 5-18, 10 points, 10 rebounds. I'm not saying he shouldn't be East MVP, but the linkage there was just r****ded. Oh by the way this is why I don't think he's better than Yao. Give Yao 18 shots... has he ever scored less than 20 points with 18 shots?
Name one GM in the league that would pick Jermaine Oneal over Yao Ming. Screw that, name one GM in the league that would pick Shaquille Oneal over Yao Ming. If we were to offer the Lakers Yao Ming for Shaq in the offseason they would cream in their pants.
Honestly, do writers ever pick their "MVP" beyond looking at the top teams and choose their best players? It's like they just look at the top 2 teams in the East(Indy and Detroit), pick the the player with the most points, and hand him the award. J O'Neal is shooting 43%, which is absurdly low for someone who doesn't shoot any 3s. Iverson, Redd, and Baron Davis are better MVP than O'Neal is right now, and none of them are having MVP seasons by any stretch of the imagination.
Jermaine O'neil has been dominant on BOTH ends of the court. *Thats* why he's getting so much attention for MVP this year and what seperates him this year from alot of the other top guys. If MVP were determined soley on shooting % then you're right, he obviously wouldnt get it....there's just a little more to it. -Nick-
