Some may not care about this, but this whole autism issue is fascinating to me. What does everyone think about this?
How can anyone listen to Jenny McCarthy over the opinions of genuine experts? The concession bit about Hannah Poling is one of the more obvious cases of misleading by the media ever. The girl had a RARE GENETIC DISORDER that was exasperated by vaccinations. This is not even remotely the same as categorically stating that "vaccines cause autism". It's the opposite. For goodness sake, the data on vaccines is not new or limited. There is TONS OF IT. at jenny mccarthy and anyone who listens to her silly accusations.
I know that this thread isn't about Jenny, but come on. She's superhawt. We gotta have a few pics of her.
Hmm, I would think that the "misdiagnosed" hypothesis is more plausible, but if some other autistic kids can go through the same process and "recover," then I hope more kids recieve this treatment.
I read an article in my doctors office about a lady detoxifying autistic kids and them recovering...something about them having levels too high in metals in their body......once they purged the metals, the kids recovered....I will see if I can find it. Autism linked to Mercury poisoning DD
Personally, I think it is pollutant build up that is causing this rise. Not just heavy metals, but PAHs, PCBs, and a host of other chemicals that contaminate EVERYTHING. But blaming this on vaccines (as the link you gave does) is just plain r****ded. It's the equivalent of blaming the hydrant for causing the fire. Moreover, the link is misinformed: Of course, it stands to reason that people would trust some nutball blogger or celebrity with no credible background over countless articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Man this gets me riled up. Note that I have a bat**** crazy cousin with five kids who refuses them vaccines, and every medicine she can. She was thrilled when her doctor said she could wait an extra 0.5 degrees of fever before giving them tylenol. Her parents are just as nucking futs. Probably has colored me a bit.
I saw an interview of her once where she was discussing her son and autism. She sounded pretty intelligent and well read about the subject. As for dietary causes for autism, I can certainly see that playing a part. Many people suffer ailments due to food allergies. Gluten is one of the major food allergies many people suffer without even knowing about it.
I think the message (which is getting a bit lost in the finger-pointing blame game) that people should pay attention to is the possibility of a recovery. Since the current treatments for autism are so limited, encouraging people to at least try a dietary solution is a good thing. Encouraging them to ditch vaccinations altogether (which, despite her weak caveat at the end, she is basically doing) is most definitely NOT a good thing.
That's about the same thing I was thinking. As a new father of a 9 month old, Autism is up there on the worry scale, but my child will definitely be getting vaccinated as I've seen enough evidence to believe that is not the problem. Say what you will about Jenny McCarthy, but the one good thing she has done is bring ALOT of awareness to Autism. This is a relatively new disorder as far as being studied, and with enough emphasis placed on it, I think this is one of those disorders that we may eventually be able to either prevent or mitigate to the point that these kids who would get autism could live more normal lives.
I'm blown away by parents who won't get their children vaccinated. Besides no real link between autism and vaccinations, wouldn't their death from measles, mumps, chicken pox, etc., etc., etc. be the worst case scenario? Why would you ever take a risk like that with your child's life?
This is an issue that is ever present for my wife and I. My son just turned four and was diagnosed as autistic (ASD to be PC) last summer. in retrospect there were signs earlier that we could have picked up on, but at the time seemed easily explainable (second child, a boy, highly verbal older sister). he now gets about 20 hours of services a week, paid for by the city, we have have also engaged a private speech therapist. He has a SEIT (Special Education Itinerant Teacher) with him in pre-school (a mainstream school), and an ABA (Applied Behavioral Approach) therapist after school. He also gets some Occupational Therapy, although not enough in my opinion. He's made remarkable progress, but still has a long way to go. Next year he'll move into a special preschool for kids with learning disabilities I don't buy the vaccine angle, although the amount of vaccine, as discussed in the article, is an interesting angle. In our case, we suspect that there might be an IVF angle. Both our children were born using IVF, in fact, both are from the same "batch", but born 21 months apart. there is an anecdotal link between some cases of autism and IVF, but to my knowledge, no confirmed link. however, most couples who use IVF are older, so is the cause, if it exists, IVF itself, or older mothers? are frozen embryos a problem (ours were frozen), and if so, how long is ok? our daughter and son shared a "refrigerator" in englewood cliffs for 4 months. she's fine, he stayed frozen for another 15 months and isn't. also unexplained is why the rates are so very much higher for boys than girls. if vaccines, environmental toxins, or other external causes were to blame, one would expect the rates to be more or less evenly distributed across the population according to sex. but boys account for almost 80% of new cases. In my son's class next year there will be one girl out of 12 kids. something else is going on. although there are some real sensory integration issues, his biggest problem is with receptive language, the ability to process information and respond. his expressive language is quite good, but if you ask him what he did that day, you get a complete blank...and yet, he's completely bilingual (French and English), at least in terms of his comprehension.
I don't care how hot she is/was, girls farting and burping in public (that was her thing) is never cute. Its never sexy. Thats all.
WWE isn't all bad. They helped Jenny lay the smackdown on Autism. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2AvboVZn5vg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2AvboVZn5vg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
