They're putting him on the DL...but the MRI revealed no ligament damage. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6685716 Jennings will miss 2-3 starts with injured elbow Associated Press Posted: 60 minutes ago HOUSTON (AP) - Astros right-hander Jason Jennings will miss at least two starts with tendinitis in his throwing elbow. Jennings, (0-1, 3.00 ERA) had an MRI exam in Houston on Saturday and the exam revealed no ligament damage. The team said Jennings would be placed on the disabled list within the next week. The 28-year-old Jennings was acquired in an offseason trade with Colorado to be the No. 2 starter in the Astros' rotation. He made two starts this season before skipping his third, scheduled for Saturday, when his elbow flared up in Philadelphia. Jennings gave up a run on five hits with seven strikeouts, but didn't get a decision in the Astros' 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh on April 3. He gave up three runs on five hits with five strikeouts in Houston's 10-1 loss to St. Louis on April 8.
Waiting for the seemingly obligatory "we got damaged good from Colorado...they need to rescind the trade...good job Purp" posts.
The Astros might bring one of those guys up to fill the roster spot, but I'm guessing Brian Moehler gets the start on Monday.
It would be Albers' day to start. He had a very nice start on Wednesday against Omaha. I was there. Other than a solo hr, he was very good.
From what I heard from peeps at the game, he was very sharp indeed. It's all control with him, Nieve too (who's had less success in his 2-3 starts). Nieve's last start, he was up, up, up with everything, breaking balls included, but had good velocity. They have the stuff, it's all just a matter of putting it where they want to, just like about all young pitchers. Patton is one they like very, very much right now. Will be fun to watch him progress. He's not happy with his changeup yet (his 3rd pitch), which is good (that he wants to get better) but bad (that he doesnt' have it quite down yet). Threw 6 innings of no-hit ball his last time out. A lot of the guys who were at the Elite Hitters/Pitchers Camp have been hot early, for whatever that's worth - Santangello, Chris Johnson, Brad James, Manzella, etc.... Can't be anything but good for them to get exposed to that level of the job at an early stage. The minors aren't as depleted as some would think. Latest shiny object, Pence, has struggled some with AAA pitching. Swings at a lot of stuff he needs to lay off of. Big adjustment from Corpus, a lot of people don't realize that. Looks very good in CF though. Weird throwing motion, weird running style, weird swing, unrefined when drafted = hard guy to evaluate. Still very, very early though.
Well, this is great news...JJ is an important part of the puzzle, IMHO and we need him healthy...That being said, I hope he can come back, but please don't rush it...
I'll be relieved when he finally shows me evidence that he can actually pitch. Until then, we still have only one starting pitcher.
They can do it retroactive to his last appearance in a game. They're calling Albers up at some point this week for Friday's game. Mohler's only pitched once so far, so I'm guessing they didn't see the need for an extra arm for the past week or so.
Jason Jennings will throw his fourth bullpen session on Wednesday as he nears the one-month mark since his last start. Jennings, who made two starts before going on the disabled list on April 9, will work on his breaking pitches. If all goes well, he'll probably throw a simulated game sometime this weekend while the team is in St. Louis. "If that goes well, I'll maybe do another one," he said. "And if that goes well, maybe rehab. I don't know." Jennings would prefer not to go on a Minor League rehab assignment when he's ready to appear in games, but he understands that's the way the team is probably leaning. "It's not my personality," he said. "I'm ready to get back out there. I didn't come over here to sit on the bench and cheer. I want to get back out there and help this team. That would be the only frustrating part. "I understand their wanting me to do rehab. We haven't really gotten that far yet, we haven't talked about it a lot. We'll discuss it when the time comes." "You don't want setbacks," Garner said. "You take a month to make the arm right and you miss it by a week because a guy goes down and does a rehab, then good, if you don't have any more setbacks." http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/...t_id=1940500&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou
