The San Antonio Spurs are nearing completion on a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks for forward Richard Jefferson(notes), league executives told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday.

The proposed deal would have the Spurs send veterans Bruce Bowen(notes), Kurt Thomas(notes) and Fabricio Oberto(notes) to the Bucks, who are looking to shed the remaining two years, $29.2 million on Jefferson’s contract for the Spurs’ expiring contracts. The contracts of Bowen and Oberto are only partially guaranteed for a total of $3.9 million for next season.

The deal isn’t completed, but league executives say both teams appear motivated to get it done.

Jefferson is the athletic, scoring forward whom Spurs have craved to complement the aging tandem of Tim Duncan(notes) and Manu Ginobili(notes). The Spurs have been pursuing the New Jersey Nets’ Vince Carter(notes) too, but it appears Jefferson is the deal that they can make now.

After arriving in Milwaukee last summer from New Jersey, Jefferson averaged 19.6 points for the Bucks last season.

Bowen, 38, has been a staple of the past three Spurs championships and one of the NBA’s most dogged defenders.

Duncan, Parker, Manu, and RJ will make a mean team. They will have a good chance next year.

If we don't resign Ron, then who's going to matchup with Jefferson? Battier can do it, but he'll be on Lefty the whole time, right?

That's a nice lineup especially if Manu can get healthy and if Duncan's bball IQ rubs off just a little on Drew Gooden. It certainly takes them from being sadly unathletic to having average athleticism (Parker, Ginobli, Gooden and Jefferson).

Landry being from Wisconsin, added with Mcgrady could probably have landed us the same deal.

Just when you think they're down and out... they surprise the hell out of you with something like that.

    Damn Spurs.

I'm actually relieved. I thought Al Jefferson was going to San Antonio. RJ seems like insurance for Ginobli. After this deal goes through, they will be very thin at PF/C especially with Duncan getting older, and his knees giving him problems.
