Ok guys, bear with me as I am not a person who believes in supernatural or paranormal activities, but I have been weirded out these past few days, and it all goes back to that damn hospital... A few days ago, I was reading about haunted places in Houston, here on the BBS hangout, http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=93017&perpage=30&pagenumber=2. I read that link, and actually started to look things up on the net about the Hospital. Later that evening, occurance of the strange part one, I was watching A&E and it had a show about the most haunted places in America. That hospital was on there, I thought to myself how ironic. I looked up the addy on the net, and went the following morning to find this place. Crazy thing is, it is 2 minutes down the street from my apt. I live off of Washington and Heights, it was off of Dart and Elder, right off of Houston street. Drove by it for a matter of second, and felt the weirdness oozing out of that place. I noticed that the place was being rennovated and being made into lofts. After I left there, I went to meet my family for lunch, and I told them about it. My mother told me that one of her aunts worked there a loooooong time ago, who recently passed away. Also, we had family who were in the confederate army, and the place is buried upon a confederate burial ground. After I left there, I started to drive back to town, coming down 45, and I sort of spaced out. I ended up driving back to the hospital unwillingly. Very strange, as I have never spaced out like this driving before. When I realized where I was, I about stained my britches. But here is weird occurance part 2, my nextel walkie talkie went off and said "stay away boy" No lies, very strange, something I cannot explain. The very next day, which is actually today, I recieved a spam email in my hotmail account, and it was from a consulting/rennovation firm, that is http://www.artspaceusa.org/inprogress/jefferdavis/. That my friends is really strange, why would they be sending me crap like this. That is weird occurance part 3. Then this evening, I had a solicitor come by my apartment. HE was a representative of photographic tendencies. This dude was selling calendars and portfolio photos, and guess what guys, there was a 12 month calendar of the Jefferson Davis hospital. Weird occurance part 4 there, I could not resist but to buy this thing, as this is something that obviously is happening to me for a reason. Here is the link to his website.... http://www.photographictendencies.com/JDH.html Due to this series of strange events, I went online and did some research. I found out that during excavations of this place, they found remains that dated back to the 1600's. Which is very weird to find remains that go back that far, in Houston. It could have been a "black death" burial grounds for the English. What were they doing here in Houston? Well what is weird, there was a line of Webb's, which is my last name, who were colonials. Some of them died of the plague. Here is the link for all of that info. http://www.lonestarspirits.org/investigations/jdh.html All in All, this can only resort from 1 of 4 things 1) My dead aunt who worked there is trying to contact me 2) My dead confederate relative is trying to contact me 3) My dead colonial plague relative is trying to contact me 4) I am f-ing crazy I actually think I am choice 4, considering I do not believe in the supernatural, but maybe you fellow BBSers could help me figure out what the hell is going on!
Maybe you just need to go see the Existential Detectives. Sounds like a mad case of coincidence...haunting should be scary, shouldn't it?
Wow, that story is true, that might be the freakiest thing I've ever heard. That whole nextel thing just isn't right. I drove by there a couple of months ago at night and a cop was waiting in the parking lot (or was it a cop?), so I couldn't get out and take a look. Anyways..that is some wierd sh*t. Keep us updated on anymore crazy stuff.
the part with the walkie talkie gave me chills! the voice says stay away, but you keep getting randomn invites or temptations. some kind of supernatural conflict going on there. id be scared to drive by, but a part of me would want to check it out (daytime of course) just to see if something else happens. very bad if it was built on burial grounds. and now they are building condos. you couldnt pay me to live there. could have been spanish or native, but if its 1600's than it wasnt english. i dont think significant populations of whites settled till the early 1800's. the spanish however, traveled thru the area as they had missions and forts closer to the louisiana border. could have been an indian burial ground as well. if that wouldnt make it haunted enough, the fact that it was a civil war era hospital. think how many men died in that building in alot of pain and trauma. if their spirits haunt anywhere, it will be there. no sir, couldnt pay me to live there.
I agree man, chilly as a willy. The place actually wasnt a civil war era hospital, the reason it has the name Jefferson Davis, is that Civil War veterans were pissed that it was being built on the graveyard that housed their brethren. So the only way to compensate them, was to name it after the General of the Confederate Army. Very strange, but the place was a charity hospital. It was made for freed slaves who were still alive, low income individuals, and veterans of the civil war that was still alive at that time. It opened its doors in 1929. And actually, there would have been whites here in the states dating back to the early 1500's, thats when the Britts started to colonize the US. But the question is, it would be rather strange to find them down here in these parts of the continent, but not unlikely as there were a few groups of them who trekked on foot through mexico, tx, and were found on the east coast. They actually were people who mutinized in the Sugar Colonies, and were dropped off on the coast of Mexico. But, it could also just have been an area where they dumped bodies, considering this area is relatively close to the gulf, good place to get infected bodies away from everyone. I don't know, its just weird that this place is some how calling out to me. I have no clue as to why!
I got the chills by looking at the pictures. I feel sorry for whoever will choose to live in the living/working space that is being built there now...
whoaa!! that is scary ****!! keep us posted!! and i agree...go home and sleep btwn your parents. i wouldn't be able to sleep if i were you!!
lets get in the back of the mystery van, and me and you can smoke some weed and eat dog biscuits. seriously, that's a lot of coincidences. I was born at the new old Jeff Davis hospital too. The one that I was born in, they took the ball to it i want to say in 1999.
poor reading comprehension skillz on my part. but the fact that its a civil war burial ground is even worse than if it was a c.w. hospital. im a pretty big history buff (always was my favorite subject and was my major in college) but i never knew that there were significant populations of whites in the houston area that early. the author of your link on the history might be incorrect. the english didnt start exploring north america till the late 1500's and jamestown was the first english settlement in the americas and that wasnt founded till the early 1600s. i know the spanish were active in the area and to a lesser extent the french. if they were english, than maybe they were cast-aways, mutiners or english pirates....ARRGHH!
My Nextel walkie talkie reception kinda cuts out sometime... Are you sure the voice didn't go, "Stay away, cabin-boy! Yaaaaarrrrrrgghhhh!" ?
