Not going to lie, the more I listen to JVG on broadcast, commercials and in interviews, the more I miss him. :/
has always been my favorite Rockets' coach. He loves Houston. He's never missed the playoffs as a head coach. I'll never understand why we let him go. I miss being an elite defensive team.
don't forget van gundy cost us Brandon Roy, although it seems to be a blessing in disguise. Also coaching was taking its toll on him because he cared too much. Now he seems happier, and you can actually hear how funny he is. If he was still coach, he would still be that sad defensive mind with heavy bags under his eyes who never smiled.
If i'm not mistaken wasnt one of the reasons he was let go was because it was hard to sell tickets with Mr. Pessimistic roaming the sidelines. I think he has a better life as a broadcaster...
"In May 2005, Van Gundy was fined $100,000 by the NBA for accusing referees of targeting Houston Rockets center Yao Ming. Van Gundy blamed Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban for causing the referees' alleged bias. This is the largest fine handed down to a coach in NBA history." I mailed him $20 to contribute, and i got a hand-written letter back with the money, which thanked me for the support, but said "I got myself into this mess, it's up to me to get myself out of it."
He was our second best coach ever for Houston. He cant help the injuries. There is no comparison between him and this joke of a coach now. Rudy T is one and JVG is number two. Mr Alex shouldnt have let that happen.
Man I hated Van Gundy when he coached here. Did anyone knew he had this type of personality before he went on the broadcasting booth? Seriously. All I remember in his interviews and during the games were yelling, yelling, and frowning. I always remember his hands on his hips with a frown on his face.
he always showed a lighter side away from coaching. It's pretty incredible how much he puts into his job.
