Most likely will carry 3 pt guards this season, that Wilks has a decent chance making the team. After van Gundy reviewed the tapes, we need more shooters.

Our roster, has good length and shot blocking with EG, Cato, Yao. But on the down side, our guards gave them a lot of chances to block shots. Sounds like van Gundy likes EG’s defensive presence. He wants EG to post in the paint and play within 10 feet of the basket, not at the 3pt line. I thought he seemed to tippy-toe around any negative comments of Rudy’s coaching.

    Offensively:
Van Gundy knowledged the "rumblings" that SF and Mobley didn’t pass the ball enough to Yao, but he thought the ball went to Yao enough, but he didn’t post deep enough in the paint. “No way, we are going to be successful, with Yao shooting approx 500 times less than SF and approx 245 less than Mobley.”

On Calvin, you need protective eyewear to look at his suits.

Are they gonna be accepting calls and/or questions for him? I'm in Austin, so I can't hear it...but I'd love to call in and talk to the guy. Oh yeah...what is their number anyways?

Thanks for the report! Us out-of-towners really appreciate those reports.

I like JVG's comments. I especially was excited about his Griffin comments. I honestly think of all the Rockets players Griffin has one of the best chances to be the MOST improved for next season under JVG. Griffin's talents were wasted hanging out at the 3pt line. I like that JVG is talking about keeping Griffin within 10 feet of the basket. More blocked shots, more rebounds, and more chances to post up and be an inside player. Griffin's goal this year should be to try to average at least 10points, 10 rebounds and 2.3 blocks a game. I am looking for Griffin to avereage a double-double much like Troy Murphy did for Golden State.

Hmmmm, from the sound of that interview I'd have to say that Griffin is untradable until at least midseason. I think JVG wants a chance to mold him into a real player. So then Francis, Cat, Yao, and Eddie are all keepers.

Didn't hear Cato's name brought up. Looks like him, Rice, and Taylor are our main trading parts. I can see Van Gundy preferring Griffin's defensive ability over Taylor's offensive skills.

Some combination of Cato, Rice, and Taylor for some combination of Harrington, Artest, Jones........... or SAR, ........or Battier, Swift, Knight, Person, ..........or Wallace, Patterson? What do you think Gater?

Mike Wilks sounds reasonably impressive.. in that article link by Clutch, it looks like he'd be okay off the bench but the problem is that hes only 23 yrs old.. he may turn into a better player but isn't the rockets young enough as it is?.. It'll be interesting if the rockets go for youth or a veteran guard

I think its safe to say that JVG wants the opportunity to see if he can get some real production outta EG.
The kid has talent, he just hasnt shown the fire that we want and need.
Maybe JVG thinks he can bring out the potential that most people acknowledge that Eggie has.

    If he cant...then seeya Eggie.

Look for EG to average 12 and 11 with 3 blocks to go with it. He will be a very good player under JVG, playing near the basket, and concentrating on defense. Ewing will also help to teach EG how to play like a big offensively and how to position for rebounds defensively. That improvement along with a structured system for SF and CM to get the ball to Yao in a good position will improve the Rox dramatically and look for Yao to have more assists this year as SF, CM, and Boki cut to the basket after the ball is dumped down low.

I am excitied already and we are still 20 days from training camp.

Perhaps the ability to snag offensive rebounds and give himself more chances at putbacks or inside scores. Clearly he has a lot to learn, but I think he will be more successful playing more inside than outside. Would you not agree?

He will be more successful once he learns how to play inside, which he hasn't done yet.

EG is clearly a talented player. But what worries me most about him is his attitude toward the game. Lack of passion is only what I can say when he is on the court and that should never happen on a 21 yrs old young player. Compared to players in same age, Amare, Tony Parker and Chandler, etc., EG looks like 40yrs old sometimes.

How easy is it to be excited when you are relegated to standing around the 3 point line when you are 6'11"? Eddie did show some signs of post ability when Larry Smith was coaching down the stretch last year and he will show even more in JVGs system.

The only chance EG has of posting anyone up is if he slides over to the 3 spot. Unless that narrow frame has put on weight, IMO, he's not going to be posting up any fours.

I think 'relegated' is the key word...

Hopefully JVG and PW will get EG to play inside more on offense. This is the year of reckoning for EG. He has a lot to prove. Or he'll be gone. By the All Star break.

Looks like you answered your own question to me.

The bottom line Rudy did not get his PF to play where his PF should play. JVG says he is going to get him to do just that.

Should EG's play not improve while playing low (as a PF should) then it SHOULD be open season on EG. Until then we can only hope for the best b/c Dawson & Co have not shown me **** except they are convinced their pathetic draft picks and signings are the right combination to succeed.

I wonder how Juaquin Hawkins figures in JVG's plan, especially if he is so high on Wilks. If Wilks makes it, there aren't enough spots for the back court positions.

Precisely! And that is why he NEEDS to get more time inside. The more time he gets the better he will be. Which is what I was trying to say.

appreciate the post movement. thx, i missed the show...sigh

that said, is anyone else disappointed that there aren't more people who listened to the show who are giving their interpretation, too.

was there really only 3 topics? Wilks, EG needing to be a post player ,and Yao needing to post deeper so he can shoot more?
