Jeff Van Gundy just interviewed on Sports Radio 610. ( I missed a majority of the earlier questions but here were a few that I remember) 610 Q:Is Steve Francis an untouchable? VG: That question needs to be directed to Carroll Dawson. In sports, nobody is untouchable. Very few people start and end their career with the same team. 610 Q:Would you at any point consider a move of Steve to the 2? VG: I think Steve is a point guard. Could he play some at 2? Certainly. Steve guarding 2's would not be playing to his strengths. Steve is better off the dribble. He is more of a point than a 2- guard.
During the commercial break after the Van Gundy interview they mentioned a teaser that they will have a comment from Steve Francis & if he wants to remain in Houston... Here is the audio transcript of what Steve said during the Rockets end of the season meeting: He said " ever since he was a Rookie, Houston was where he was looking forward to playing his whole career. He understands the NBA is a business, thinks him and coach got along pretty well. But he understands the NBA is a businesss.
I don't know...sounds like Stevie is on the proverbial block to me. VG is usually straight up in his responses, and he seemed to be hedging on this one. I think management has given this group more than enough time to see if they can compete at a high level...clearly they cannot and will not, and it's not one person's fault...a lot of talented pieces that just don't fit.
Why do we people assume we have a lot of talented pieces? We're one of the least talented teams in the league. We're one of the least athletic as well, only Francis can be considered "athletic" and Cato is athletic relative to his size. We need more talent, more athleticism (especially at the F spots). We need to stockpile talent by buying at low value (Bonzi Wells to the Grizzlies) and selling high (Pollard to the Pacers).
I understand SF thought about NBA is a business. CD and JVG will probably looking for someone in the PF position, rather than trading the 2 guards. Cato and MoT will most probably will be shopped around by CD.
Don't forget the Charlotte expansion draft. A lot will depend on who we protect....Cato & or Mo T may be going to Charlotte. DD
this is a tricky prospect...before who NOT to protect we have to consider the pool of potential replacements...if done right, this could be a great opportunity to shape the team in the mold of VG has always wanted.
I think Charlotte can draft a player and instantly trade him...the Rockets should be all over the BobCats and trying to work a deal. Screw number 1 picks, give em away, we need to win now. DD
I think Mo Taylor will be headed to Charlote, to save us money, and I think Cato will be ship off to the Seatle Sonics for Rashard Lewis, and we will try to sign a rebounding pf. Rashard Lewis is destin to play for the rox. That will give us a chance to put Cat or JJ on the bench. Steve Francis Jim Jackson Rashard Lewis FREE AGENT Yao Ming Thats a realistic lineup for next yr.
Lets not get carried away now, CD need to work on how to add talent and youth too this team, while winning now. Look at what going to happen with the Lakers, when Kobe and Shaq are done, they will be left w/ nothing (or hopefully). Anyone think LA will pick up Lebron later in his career? Lebron in LALA Land? Thats a site to see.
ok, i can see a good reason for us to not protect moT, but can anyone give a good, accurate and honest reason why charlotte would take him?
to charlotte, they could use a good scoring power forward. Honestly, I think that Mo could drop 20ppg and put up 8rebs in the east. While his contract isn't the best, Charlotte knows it will be a few seasons before they can really compete, but they will still have to put out a competitive product on the floor or the fan base won't return. In the long run, by the time MO's contract would be up, the Bobcats should be good enough to make the playoffs and will have some salary cap room to sign a good free agent. It seems pretty logical to me, but hey, I am a rockets fan.
I think they just said that they are going to replay the interview with Van Gundy in the 7 o'clock hour.
Charlotte doesn't even have to keep Taylor if they draft him. They can release him without Taylor's contract taking up any cap room.
i almost envy the bobcats, being able to start a team with a clean slate, in a time where many teams are in cap trouble due to signing bad contracts to players im a huge texans fan, and have enjoyed the expansion team process, with the right approach and execution, you can really build up a nice team, i think the texans could make the playoffs this year in season number 3, key is to build for the future, try to build a dynasty dont go for the short term approach a la panthers and jaguars
And, like Mrs. B-Bob says, we need more stimulating play at the G spot. That's pretty astute, considering she doesn't watch the Rockets.
