    1. The award is based on regular season performance.

    2. JVG should win it.

    3. The haters should get with the program and celebrate the fact that we have one of the very top coaches of the year if not the number one coach.

I hope JVG can be the coach of the year ... because he is the coach of Rockets. Let's hope Shane can be the defensive player of the year too ... great year for Rockets ... playoff time ...

I was thinking something about this during the game. I'm not about to talk about 'the right coach' or anything like that, but I thought about this: we

    1. Have a 50+ win season.

    2. Lost Yao Ming for a good chunk of it. Went 20-12 without him.

    3. Are in the playoffs.

    4. Have HCA in the first round.

And that makes me pretty damn happy. I keep thinking back to when Yao went down...it's hard to believe that here at the end of April we would have the best record since 97 and would be a playoff team and have Yao back dropping 30+ on the Suns.

Somebody should win an award for something, dammit.

I'll wait until the last regular seaon game. He ranks no. 1 in my list as of now, but if he dared playing TMac and Yao more than 10 minutes the day after tomorrow, he'll lost my vote.

As stated in another thread, JVG has done a great job this season. Not good, great! But Avery Johnson would get my vote for Coach of the Year because of the prolonged even keel he kept the Mavericks on for so long. JVG is #2. Sam Mitchell #3. The Jazz late season tank job has taken Sloan out of consideration.

i agree. And since Avery Johnson was COY last year, it's between JVG and Mitchell. My money's on JVG now.

The race for coach of the year is kind of tight...There is an obvious number one..JVG,but then, not many people realise there is a tie..Sam Mitchell of the toronto raptors! Then theres Avery at 2... alot of coaches. But JVG should take it.
We also have a defensive player candidate in Shane Battier.
AND should i add, 2, i repeat TWO MVP candidates Yao and Tracy.

Now tell me the rockets are not a good team, please,i wanna see anyone try(Im sure someones gonne reply with"rockets arn't a good team:D" comment LOL)

Haters who jumped off, sorry we filled in ur spot..u can chase teh abdnwagon on foot if you want.

    ITS PLAYOFF TIME BABY

He has done a good job, but IMHO, coach of the year is Avery Johnson.

I'm not sure. In terms of a coaching job, I would consider it to be a lot harder to take a injury plagued team to a 52-29, then it is to just continue running the helm at one of the most talented teams in the NBA.
