I do a lot of composing, along with my drumming, and I am finally thinking about getting some recording equipment. I've been using Pro Tools for a while now, and I've heard that their boards are some of the best out there. Today I found out Guitar Center is doing one of their "No payments, no interest for a year" promos, and I'm seriously thinking about picking up the Digi 002. Anyone have any advice on this? Stick with that, or go to a different brand? The thing really impresses me. For those who don't know about it, check it out
I know lots of people that don't use digital mixers to mix with Pro Tools, especially in small, project studios. If you just want something to help regulate the sound going in, you might consider a Mackie analog board. They have great mic pres and tons of small studios use them for this type of thing. I don't know a ton about digital mixers, but the thing I do know about mixing is that whatever mixer you get better have very good preamps. Do some research around the web on what people think about the four mic pre's the Digi002 has and how they sound. Quality mic preamps can be the difference between great sounding recordings and absolute pieces of crap. Before even considering how cool a digital mixer's features might be, I would make sure and check out its mic preamps.
That was my big concern also. I have a buddy who lives out in LA who does some studio work using Pro Tools (obviously, the higher line than the Digi 002), so I'm gonna call him today.
