Anyone know anything about them beyond what I can read in Consumer Reports or at Kelley Blue Book? Looks to be pretty reasonably priced for its size. And gets far better mileage than comparables, as best I can tell.
For its size? I am not sure if you have seen it up close or not, but it's about the same size (if not slightly smaller) than the Explorer. The third seat is only for kids, and it's an ugly vehicle. Seriously though, you can probably get the new Explorer for a bit cheaper, and the Explorer seems to have a higher quality interior. If you're a jeep guy, then go for it I guess...
They are newly redesigned, much smoother and more classic looking (like an old ML , Mercedes is going th opposite direction putting too many hard angles on the 2006...like the old Jeep) They are kinda small and frankly I have never trusted a Jeep product but they are looking much better.
No problemo, my advice to you would be to test drive both vehicles back to back and get a sense for each one. The Jeep will likely have more power, but it might be too much power that you really don't need. The Explorer, IMO, seems like the more ideal family-type SUV (more comfort, slightly roomier on the inside, just a hands-down better looking interior), the Jeep is likely a better 'outdoors' vehicle and more tuned for that purpose. So again, it depends on your needs and what exactly you're looking for in an SUV. Here are some of the pros and cons from edmunds.com: Jeep Pros: Three available engines, excellent off-road ability, balanced handling, simple controls. Cons: Low-grade interior materials, minimal legroom for third-row seat, mediocre cargo capacity, poor gas mileage with the big V8s. Crash test ratings: Unavailable Ford Explorer Pros: Excellent ride and handling characteristics for a truck-based SUV, strong optional V8, comfortable and quiet interior with user-friendly layout, standard Roll Stability Control. Cons: Low resale value, lousy fuel economy. Crash test ratings: Driver - Good Passenger - Excellent Side Impact (Front/Rear) - Excellent/Excellent
1909 Ford Model T 12mpg/city 21mpg/highway 2006 Ford Explorer 15mpg/city 21mpg/highway we've come a long way baby
I test drove the Commander a month ago. PROS: -It has a cool Hummeresque boxy look to it -3 rows of seats. (7 passenger) -It has 3 sunroofs! -Plenty of power on the V8 I drove CONS -Rough ride -Stadium seating (The 3rd row is the highest seat) that makes the driver feel like he's driving a stationwagon -Not as roomy as I thought it would be I decided to stick with my Yukon.
Be an opportunist. GM is in the middle of a financial meltdown and are offering cars well below MSRP with 72 months 0% interest. Ironically, it seems GM is doing an Enron (shifting debt) in a legal manner by having GMAC lose credibility and subsidize their larger GM parent firm by offering silly terms to get turnover. That coupled with the gas price scare (would've been better buying a big SUV when gas was $4 a gallon!) has really shot down SUV prices. You'll get 5 to 10g's off of the price of a Tahoe, and if you make a reasonable return in the marketplace, then you are getting the car a few thousand cheaper as well. Landmark Chevrolet is very aggressive and they actually gave me a 2005 Chevy Cobalt for free for a raffle for a charity dinner I helped set up. Strike while the iron is hot and look at GM cars.
Hey....its a great deal if you want to go for one. Jeep is owned by DaimlerChrysler whose sales have not been as weak and whose parent company is in much better shape. I've also heard of electrical issues with Jeeps.
we've had lots of jeeps and haven't had problems. i have lots of time, so i don't know what i'm gonna do.
