Ok, because I'm in the tech industry, we tend to have a very casual dress code at work. I usually come to work in jeans, a polo shirt tucked in, and Nikes. As a rule, engineers typically do not dress very well, and I can deal with the mismatched, out of date clothes. However, on Friday's the dress code takes a turn for the worst. I swear, in the last hour, I have seen at least 10 people in jean shorts aka "jorts." First of all, besides rednecks and Sooner fans, who the hell wears jean shorts in 2004? What's worst, is they'll coordinate the outfit with something like a hideous Hawaiian shirt and hi-top mountain hiking boots, circa 1993. Either that, or they'll wear an old t-shirt from a past project from 5-6 years ago that accentuates the protruding "engineering gut." I've also seen alot of the Indians and Asians around the office pimp the fake Teva sandals with socks. Again, didn't this go out of style in '92? What's worse is the ones who don't even bother with the socks, and sport the nasty untrimmed toenails, which is absolutely disgusting. People need to realize that they're going to work. A certain degree of professionalism is expected. We work with vendors on a daily basis, and they must think the guys at my company are total scrubs. Gives us a bad reputation.
jorts were outlawed for life in my office when a guy showed up in them on a casual friday last year. we ripped on him so hard, he eventually threw them out. jorts should be banned from society.
I'm more into the Shirt and Tie thing or a Suit but your not supposed to wear socks and sandals at the same time...EVER
oh. my. that is absolutely hysterical. i don't even want to know if it's true. the assertion in and of itself is priceless!!!
this thread is becoming among my favorites of all time. we're a YoYao appearance away from a hall of fame thread. i will say that jorts are quite fomofotable...for RM95 at least!
Major: I'm going to get right to the point. It has come to my attention that you and the cleaning woman have engaged in sexual intercourse on the desk in your office. Is that correct? RM95: Who said that? Major: She did. RM95: Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time. Major: You're fired. RM95: Well you didn't have to say it like that. Major: I want you out of here by the end of the day. RM95: What about the whole nice weather in August thing? Any flexability there? RM95: Nah. Wait, wait, she wanted me to give you this. He tosses the jorts and they land right on top of RM95's face. RM95 walks out of the office "wearing" them.
This thread should get a sticky. It should never be removed. It should remind us of all this message board could and should be.
Dress code or no dress code, you decrease production for at least 25% of the workforce. So you can't win. Which may explain why productivity increases for the telecommuters. They don't deal with dress codes. Who knows. In my opinion it's a no win situation.
Speaking of dress code...I blew it off today, too. Went with relaxed khakis, button-down untucked, and tennis shoes. I love days like that! Admit it..you're all jealous of wild man, MadMax right about now!! I'M TAKING IT UP A NOTCH!!!
Jorts?? Wow - I can honestly say that I have never heard that term before, but I am cringing at the thought of people coming to work with those things on. If saying the word makes you laugh out loud, then it is probably not a good idea to wear it to the work environment.
i don't know...i could live with Jams easier than Jorts, I think. Jorts....how shall i say it?? tend to fit a little tight on some folks.
