SportsTicker Updated: 3:56 p.m. ET Sept. 21, 2004SALT LAKE CITY - The NBA’s all-time leader in assists and steals will have his number raised to the rafters at the Delta Center. On Tuesday, the Utah Jazz announced they will retire future Hall of Fame guard John Stockton’s number 12 during a November 22 game against the New Orleans Hornets. Stockton, who spent his entire 19-year NBA career with the Jazz, racked up 15,806 assists and 3,265 steals in 1,504 games before retiring in 2003. “We are excited to honor John in this special way,” Jazz owner Larry Miller said. “After spending his entire 19-year career with the franchise, John’s incredible athleticism deserves to be memorialized. We look forward to hosting him and his family on November 22.” Selected 16th overall in the 1984 draft, Stockton was a 10-time NBA All-Star who led the league in assists nine consecutive years from 1987-88 through 1995-96. He and longtime teammate Karl Malone were selected as co-MVP’s of the 1993 All-Star game at the Delta Center. Stockton was a member of both the original “Dream Team” that won a gold medal in the 1992 Olympics and the 1996 squad that won gold in Atlanta. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6065345/
When Malone retires the Jazz will hold a joint retirement ceremony. They will retire a big fat 0 in honor of the number of championships those 2 guys won!!
Come on man, grow up and show some respect. Just cause you don't like him doesn't take anything away from what a great player Stockton was. Congrats to Stockton
I really hate Malone, but John SEEMED like a good guy although his game was kinda crap at times overall he was a great player...
Congrats, John Stockton. Despite the widespread Rocket-fan animosity toward him, I always did like him.
I have mixed feelings about Stockton. Every time I see him run the Jazz offense, I get depressed knowing I'll never see such great PG play from the Rockets probably ever. The execution is just beautiful. Watching him run the pick&roll, and then watch Francis run the same play... there's simply no comparison. That said, every time he flops on to the floor backward to draw that "charge", I'd lose all my respect for him.
athleticism relative to pasty slow white folks in Utah maybe I've eased up on the hatred since he's retired and no longer have murderous thoughts about him at night anymore. Karla on the other hand...don't get me started...
