http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1666119 Music rap performer Jay-Z has retained the New York City investment banking firm of Andrew, Alexander,Wise and Co. to explore the possibility of making a bid to purchase the New Jersey Nets, sources told ESPN. The YankeeNets holding company, which runs the franchise, put it up for auction in September and is now receiving bids. A spokesman for Jay-Z declined comment to ESPN. The Newark Star Ledger reported last week that New York developer Bruce Ratner had emerged as the high bidder for the Nets with an offer of $275 million.
How great would it be if Jay-Z got the Nets and P-Diddy got the Knicks. What a rivalarly that would become.
The Nets need to get out of New Jersey ASAP. Two time Conference champs, and they get almost no fan support. The Knicks have sucked the past two seasons, and they pack MSG every night. I think the arena is in a crappy location, too...
Damn, to hell with pursuing a career as a doctor or athletic riches, I'm going to get my kids into the rap game.
Now rappers don't make as much money as rappers who own their own successful record labels. The most prominent rappers to do this are Sean "P.Diddy" Combs, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, and Percy "Master P" Miller. These three have combined assets of $1.5-2.0 billiob dollars. P.Diddy along with owning Bad Boy Entertainment owns a high scale restaurant, a clothing line, and is even designing automobiles now. Jay-Z partly owns Roc-A-Fella Records as well as his own clothing line, and a vodka company. Master P owns No Limit Records as well as his own clothing line, mobile communications company, real estate company, phone-sex business, and several different sports related items.
