I am not one to find things online sorry but the reference to the rockets is pretty small on this, but in the new SI magazine (the one with the red sox logo collage) there is an small inset article about the future/comeback of Jay Williams within the Grant Hill artcile (btw a great piece of work). In the last paragraph it mentioned the Bulls, Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks who have made inquiries already in the status of Jay Williams' rehab.

Interesting, I dont know how much of his explosiveness he has left, but apparently he dunked the ball again for the first time in the past month since the accident (Williams is 6'2 btw) which is a good sign. Out of the 3 teams interested the Rockets look to be the best in terms of team success hopefully he can come back and play effectively and we can sign him.

I hear he is at least one year away. We need help now. At least it is good to hear that CD and his crew actually made a move.

Jay if healthy could still be a formidable PG in the NBA.

Sign him now, put him on IR and see if he can come back.

You get him cheap, and it may work out ALA Grant Hill.

It may not.....but it is a better risk than signing Charlie FRICKEN Warts to a 3 year deal.

Agreed. He could probably be had for dirt cheap right now, assign him a personal trainer and whip him into shape.

He might not come back this year, but like you said, it's better than handing Ward a 3-year deal. Why didn't we sign Damon Jones? Why?

I have been saying this for so long....why not use one of our IR spots for him and let him rehab with us...not only does it give him more confidence that someone is taking a chance on him, but it will push him harder. I mean it can't be too expensive to have him right now....

This guy would be great for us but of course it's all wishfull thinking.

let him sell hotdogs or something..give him a job in the organization that way...put him as a backup drummer or something and if we need him we will bring him back lol.

I loved his college game and think that he was a great college player. But... he is too short to be an effective NBA starter and he has never been a good shooter... especially from NBA range.

Would make a great story... but no thanks.

BTW... my one claim to fame is that I hung out (through mutual friends) with his mother a couple times when I lived in PA. She lived in Jersey as while a very nice woman... she is Ms. Iverson lite.

Sure, being an inch taller than Isaiah Thomas, or 5 inches taller than Calvin Murphy, or 3 inches taller than Iverson, or 9 inches taller than Boykins, or well you get my drift.

Just a heads up ... there was a small mention of this in the Chicago Tribune this morning.

    http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...sbits,1,7961208.story?coll=cs-bulls-headlines

Sports Illustrated reported the Bulls contacted Jay Williams recently to inquire about his health. Though relations are still cordial between the two parties, the Bulls have no intention of re-signing Williams if he successfully rehabilitates from injuries suffered in a June 2003 motorcycle accident.

They have Hinrich, Duhon and Gordon, so I think that was probably easily assumed anyhow (though things could change by the time Jay Williams gets healthy - still a big if on that though).

Personally I think the thing that made Jay Williams an attractivew player was his skills combined with the explosiveness. I don't know if he'll ever get that back.

Some GM is going to take the chance, probably sooner rather than later. If it fails and Williams is never able to come back, nobody would remember it. But if it *works* and Williams is able to eventually get back to his previous level, it makes that GM a genius. Certainly worth looking into, if I were CD.

I wonder it would take to sign him now. Maybe Williams himself wants to wait until he's finished rehabbing so he can get his price higher?

I feel like the Rockets' GM did not do a good job in the offseason. When they got TMac...everything to me just stop right there. They stop getting and pursuing any other good player...they keep waiting and waiting and ended up getting crappy players that they think it's good when actually they're just mediocre. Now they're paying the price and I am blaming Carroll Dawson for the wrong move. They could have gotten Derick Fisher NO DOUBT about it. They could have gotten some other good players if they (for a minute) stop thinking about wheather it fit in the JVG's system or not. They should get the players with the best talents and not so much about fitting into the system....because i mean look at the Rockets now....they don't have enough talents surrounding Yao and Tmac. I mean look at Detroit...they're the Champ and still be able to add talents like McDysss....why can't the Rockets get him.

Yeah I know. i thought we could've gotten Gooden or Nelson or Hill out of that trade. We give up three legit starters and at the time I'll admit I thought it was a fair trade. We get one superstar and 3 players that take turns being in JVG's dog house. Howard, Lue and Gaines all have had their nights with the DNP- Coach's Decision. Jay Williams would be alright to take a chance on. He's an upgrade on one bad leg over Ward and Lue.

Um, Weis was really high on Nelson and thought he was gonna be the steal of the draft so no way he would part with him. If Houston wasn't gonna do the deal that went down, they would've went with the Phoneix or Indiana deal I thnk.

This is a hard call...remember Randy Livingston...he was being touted as a steal IF he could come off his injury...which he never really did. But I don't think Livingston was as good as Williams is(was). I don't think the Rockets have anything to lose, other than a roster spot. I know the GMs/coaches utilize those IR spots to create a 14 man roster, but if mid-season comes and the Rockets are still in disaster mode, I say go for it. Make him yours and take your chances. If it works out, we may have a great young talent in the organization for years to come. If it doesn't work out, move on...not much lost.

DD, never been able to figure out why Charlie Ward is signed 3 years. Even some young and promising guys are usually sign for 1 year, there's no reason to sign Ward for 3 except he's JVG's teacher's pet.
