Yao Ming is Rick Smits at best, and we'd be lucky if he made it that far. As much as I can't stand Cato, I'm not sure that Ming would be a significant upgrade.

Am I the only person that thinks Jay Williams is the player in the draft that is most likely to become an all-star? If Williams, Francis and Barron Davis were in the same draft, I'm not sure who the "experts" would be picking.

I'm curious to hear what folks think of this.
    - Pick Jay Williams at No. 1.
    - After that, the Rockets have a glut at guard, so we package Mobley, Taylor or Thomas and our No. 15 pick for Antonio McDyess. (I'm not sure that this is even possible)

It's time the Rockets took a hard look at what they have and be honest about it. Cuttino is a good player but not great. I think Williams, as a rookie, would be almost as good.

Alternatively, CD and Rudy should be scaring the daylights out of Chicago and Golden State by threatening to take Jay Williams. We can create a bidding war between those two teams. We can make Chicago trade up to No 1. to make sure they get Jay Williams by threatening to trade our pick with Golden state. Make Chicago give us something.

first of all, you have no idea what yao ming will become

i see him more like an improved divac down the line, and i don't know if you watched tonight's game, but that's a good thing

secondly, i believe butler will impact the nba more than jay will

the pg is too talented and guards just don't affect the outcome of the game like they did before.

I was also impressed with Divac last night. I would just hate for us to come away with nothing with a No. 1 pick, and there are just too many Bradley's, Bol's, Muresan's out there.

I agree Ming might develop some decent offensive skills, but the Rockets need interior defense, rebounding and toughness more than anything. After reading other threads, it sounds like Stoudamire fits that bill more than anyone.

Th problem with drafting Williams is that Francis seems likely to react poorly to it and leave when his contract is up.

His response that 'we don't need a point guard' was pretty clear...

Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you. Been thinking about it for a few years, and decided that it's not really a sound approach.

HA!:D That is one of the funniest posts I've thread for a while on the BBS. I never ever thought it'd come from this forum. That's a great response considering now considering how bad Jay Williams is tearing it up in the NBA. And clearly, Yao's game has shown he'll never amount to half the game Rik Smits had.;)

honestly...we'll never know. if jay had been drafted by houston - he probably wouldn't have been in the motorcycle accident (just cuz every event would have been different)...he might of developed into a great player, and maybe the rox would have traded for a big man instead of mcgrady (maybe shaq?).

    we'll honestly NEVER know.

Francis is a nice player but hes not gonna get anyone a ring. No Yao means no Mcgrady. That is so much BS. That team dosent even touch our team now. That just sounds like your standard 8 spot east team.

Any team still interested in JW could probably land him as a free agent at a decent price. With the emergence of the Bulls backcourt, they have no use for him.

It would be interesting nonetheless to get Yao and JW. I still remember all those ESPN experts saying JW would have the better career and Yao couldn't handle the NBA. :)

    BUMP!!!
