I just rented this. What a load of crap! Sooo freaking bad. The chicks are the only reason I was able to make it through it. Okay, that's all I have.
I'd have to agree with TheFreak. They even managed to make Ferrel as unfunny as possible. About the only thing that made me laugh was Scooby Doo's "stoner-boner" in the deleted scenes portion of the dvd. And yes I dug the other movies.
I LOVED Clerks - what a hilarious, original movie. Jay & Silent Bob was terrible, easily one of the worst movies I've seen in a while. My gf & I made it through about 45 minutes & decided to find something better to do.
I have to agree as well. I saw it in the theater and was severely disappointed. I loved Clerks, thought Mallrats was okay, and thought that Chasing Amy was a pile of ****. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was just a regurgitation of many old jokes from those movies, and they weren't funny a second time. I was disappointed.
I liked it. It was what it was - mostly sophmoric humor with a bunch of references to their previous films. I happen to have seen and enjoyed all 4 previous Kevin Smith flics, plus the Clerks cartoon series. Still, for the casual viewer with no relation to the characters, I can see a lack of interest. It wasn't as good as Clerks, but then you can say that about almost all movies. That's like saying Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was a bad movie because Raiders was better.
Wish you would have warned me earlier. I rented it this weekend. Worst. Movie. Ever. (And I saw "I Spit on Your Grave")
Sammy nailed it. And how you couldn't find the Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season scene classic, then you're beyond help.
Well after seeing all of the previous movies more than once, I can say I had a good "relation" to the characters. This movie was not only worse than clerks, it was worse than all of the previous movies as well. Much worse. Expected some quality from the movie, not just a hack job. The movie deserved to bomb.
Why don't you tell us how you really feel Crisco? My "relation to the characters" comment wasn't directed at you. I am slightly surprised that (1) you view a movie's box-office success as any indicator of quality, given the fact that movies like Clerks had low ticket sales while movies like Titanic set records; and (2) that you think it takes any sort of effort to make Will Ferrell unfunny. He usually does that all by himself.
It is threads like this that made me put this movie in the most underrated thread. There were soooo many good scenes, like the Carrie Fisher scene or the part with the LA drug dealers or the LA hookers. The part at the movie studio was hilarious with Diedrich Bader, Jules Anser, Jason Biggs, and James van der Beek. The bong saber scene was funny too. Plus, it had Eliza Dushku in it, what more can you ask of a movie. My favorite scene had to be the part with the devils on his shoulders or the scooby-doo van. The movie would have been better if the deleted scenes had been left in, but that is true of most of the KS movies.
how i'd rank the "trilogy" 1. Dogma 2. Chasing Amy 3. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back 4. Clerks 5. Mallrats
when i saw the movie for the first time i thought it was absolutely horrible, and i'm a pretty big kevin smith fan. but i've since seen it on dvd a couple times and i think it's damn funny. i wanted to walk out the first time but if you give it another chance in maybe a month or so, i don't see how you can't think it's hilarious.
I'm going to have a hard time calling anything with Ben Affleck in it 'classic'. The characters Jay and Silent Bob just cannot carry a movie, IMO. Silent Bob's antics were just so played out in this movie...in Clerks, he was just kinda 'there'. And what's with all the profanity? Geez, come up with some dialogue. I don't recall a sentence that didn't contain the f-word. Nice chicks, nothing else. And Ferrell is God.
Damnit, I've lost the RM95 vote. For what its worth, I thought Will Ferrell was fine in J&SB, Austin Powers 2, Zoolander, and Dick. Never really liked his work on SNL though. Freak, if Ferrell is God, why couldn't he save this movie from being the steaming pile of excrement that you claim it is? And does that make Chris Kattan Jesus?
Why don't you tell us how you really feel Crisco? gee, I thought that's what I was doing. My "relation to the characters" comment wasn't directed at you. okay. I am slightly surprised that (1) you view a movie's box-office success as any indicator of quality, given the fact that movies like Clerks had low ticket sales while movies like Titanic set records Since when did I say success IS an indicator? Good movies should get good sales. Bad movies shouldn't get good sales. IMO. Usually doesn't work out that way though. J&B is a horrible movie, and I don't think it's worth anyone's money or time, so yes, I think it deserved to bomb, but I don't actually know if it did or not, I don't look over how much money movies take in that often. (2) that you think it takes any sort of effort to make Will Ferrell unfunny. He usually does that all by himself. uh yeah, whatever. And you think J&BSB is a good movie.
J&SBSB cost $22 million, earned $30 million Dogma cost $10 million, earned $30 million Chasing Amy cost $250,000, earned $12 million Mallrats cost $6 million, earned $2 million Clerks cost $230,000, earned $3 million
