For whatever reason, whenever I am using a site that has Javascript popups or actions, they never seem to work. It's not a browser error since the same issue is on both IE and Firefox, but it's also not a popup block error either.

I've tried updating Java numeroustimes over the past few months to see if it was just an error within the version, but it didn't work.

For instance, if I try to watch the videos from CNN.com, I can click "watch" andthe window that displays the video will popup, but the video never loads.

Another example is using Yes.com; if I want to see what was playing at say, 4PM and click "4PM" on the right pane, nothing occurs, but it's clearly a Javascript issue.

    Any suggestions?

    1.)Uninstall Java completely.

2.)Delete all your downloaded program files from IE by going to tools - internet options - click on settings under the temporary internet files section - click on view objects and delete everything in that window.

3.)Delete all of your temp files on your PC by clicking on start - run and type in %TEMP% and click OK. delete all files in that folder. Then download the latest version of java.

4.)Don't listen to "Lady" by Styx. That could be the cause of all the problems here. :D

no, it's not JAVA, RoxFan73. If it were Java, it wouldn't say "javascript:" and something else on the status bar. It is a JavaScript problem. It may be that your browsers or your machine's "javascript:" protocol (just like "http:" and "about:") is messed up. Is this happening on the same machine with the same user? To find out, log in as someone else and see if this is happening.

It could also be that the JavaScript handlers in the Windows system may be corrupt.

In FireFox, go to the Tools menu, bring up the "JavaScript console". In the console, type "alert('hello')" and see if that brings up an alert saying "hello".
Close the JavaScript console, then try the following on the address bar: "javascript:alert(lastModified)" (you can try this last one on IE as well). It should display an OK dialog box with a date. If all that works, then your FireFox and IE or both have good JavaScripts. Next, we will try to find out what else we can do. Try these things, please.

I am watching the game on 51, so I will check back before the beginning of the game to see if it worked. Try these things out, please, and also, use a service like http://imageshack.us to show us your screen capture. Friggin' picture is HUGE. :D

SOrry for the double post, but, it's not JAVA and stop updating it. It does no good. JAVA is not the same as JavaScript. If it were JAVA alone, it would have to be an applet loading and the little JAVA thingie icon would display on our icon tray. Again, I will see how your tests did. Let us know.

Hey thanks for the suggestions; I tried the javascript:alert(lastModified) and nothing popped up. Both in IE and Firefox.

I wouldn't at all doubt that parts of this computer is corrupted. Recent issues like serious computer lagging between programs has occurred, mostly from a "View Wireless Connections" error that I installed an updated version of the driver I thought I needed a few months back. Well, whenever I try to "View Available Wireless Networks", Windows Explorer crashes for about 5 minutes. I'm going to have to take it to IT people or send it back to Sony in California for the third time in 17 months.

But that's a separate issue that sucks. I'll keep trying with the javascript console stuff, but hard to find info online.

Thanks again and I don't want to distract you from a game we're actually winning!:D

Oh, and sorry about the pic; I knew it wold be a bit big, but I'll fix it.

Yeah it sucks, but oh well. Would it have anything to do with extensions by chance? I got SwitchProxy even though it's only a FireFox file. Actually I don't even know why I got the extension in the first place; no reason to use it.

I've even tried resetting configurations in the BIOS which somehow managed to delete all of my Bookmarks, even though the idiot Sony guy said nothing would be lost.

I thought this computer would be great, but it's been a b****: NEVER BUY A SONY LAPTOP

I think I'm having the same problem and I figured it had something to do with my antivirus, firewall...... I was using Norton 2004 and they never worked but when i switched to 2006 they worked for day or two until it went back to the way it was before. Still not working......

Just disable the Sony program that blocks JavaScript. It's some sort of so-called detection program designed to deter maliscious script, and it's probably of the '02-'03 generation... Under "VAIO Support Agent", I believe (icon looks like a little ambulance). I had that issue on my desktop PC as well at first. You may also update the VAIO support database.

I just circumvented the issue altogether.
