I'm a big Georgia Tech fan and I absolutely love Jack. He is one of the best guards in the country. I would love to see him get drafted by the Rockets, although I think he will pull out of the draft and return for his senior year. He broke T-MAC's scoring record in high school. He is also a cousin of Chris Duhon. Would anyone else like to see him put on a Rockets uniform? Jarrett Jack
I think Jack would be great for the Rockets, particularly with his defensive skills. I would unequivocally take him if he were still available at #24. Unfortunately, even if he does stay in the draft, he's unlikely to fall to us, no matter what NBADraft.net says.
Love the kid. Could go anywhere from 15 to 32. He's top 10 talent though. Hope he stays in the draft so the Rockets have a chance to pick up one of the best pgs late in the first round.
Yes, I've been wanting him for about a year since seeing him in the tourny last year. He's underrated on all the boards I've seen. I don't see how he can be considered the sixth or seventh best PG in the country and high schoolers being taken before him. I think he'd be great at 24 if we were able to get a PF with the MLE or through trading expiring contracts. Actually, if he stays in the draft and falls, I'd like to see us trade down to get him since it looks like most of the teams around us are going to be shopping for big men and swing men except maybe Utah if they haven't gotten a point by then. I'd like to see us work a trade to somehow get to the top of the second round, pick up Jack with our 24 and then pick up Turiaf at the top of round 2. Mix in Spanoullis, Antonio Daniels, and a big PF through trade and MLE and we got a championship dynasty in the making. How about trade DWes, Baker et all to Portland for their #2, D. Miles and a resigned SAR. Pick up AD with the MLE. And then draft Jack and Turiaf.
If he can cut down on his turnovers (3.4 per) and shoot with consistancy, then he would be top 10 talent. He shot horriblely from 3 point land his first 2 years and college, but shot pretty well this past year. If he can continue shooting well and protect the ball a little bit more, he'd be the perfect PG for us.
I definitely want Jack to be a Rocket.Kind of see him as a tweener though, really more of a 2 ala Joe Dumars/Otis Birdsong. He's so strong I think guys are going to have a tough time posting him up.Jack's a real lockdown defender that can bust from downtown.
The mock drafts of different websites, it is hard to get a real handle on where anyone is going outside of Bogut going in the top two. Jack is projected 10th on one website, but 29th on another. Georgia Tech's team also resembled one sort of like the Rockets. They liked to get their big man(Luke Schenser) involved, but also looked to their two guard(B. J. Elder) to do most of the scoring. They were also a very strong defensive team which fits in well with what Van Gundy likes. Jack will probably be a descent 3-point shooter in the pros. He will work hard at them so he can be consistent with his shot. His turnovers may not be as big of a problem in the pros because of the players around him. There were a lot of dropped passes by his teammates. The same thing happened to TMac in the Dallas series. Many of his turnovers should have been assists, but people(Ryan Bowen a handful of times) dropped the ball.
Since I don't know what we'll do in FA, I'll say that at 24, Ike Diogu is the guy I want the most. After him it's Jack, but I doubt he'll be there. If Jack falls out of the top 20 it will be a crime. With T-Mac and Yao Ming his assist to turnvoer ratio would probably be about 2-1, not 4.5/3.5. He'd be an excellent fit on the Rockets, probably the best fit at PG in the whole draft other than Felton(who obviously works extremely well with talented players). Having said all this, I doubt really doubt Jack or Diogu are there, and in that case, I'm hoping for Simien. If he's not there, there's really nobody that exciting.
I watched a pretty good amount of ACC basketball this year, and while Jack is pretty solid I don't think he'd be a great fit on the Rockets. He's not a pass first PG and he's not a great 3 point shooter. He is really quick and can play D, but I think our PG's first priorities should be being able to get the ball to Yao/TMac and being able to hit the three when those guys are doubled.
I watch Georgia Tech play all the time because they are my favorite school outside of Georgia Southern(where I am currently enrolled). Jack is definitely a pass first guard. He always tried to defer when he could, but the truth is that he was the second best scorer on the team. Sometimes he could get a little frustrated with his teammates and begin trying to take over the game. While it back-fired sometimes, more than not it led to getting his team going and the crowd fired up. He is an emotional leader who leaves his heart out on the court. I also say that his 3-ball will be poor in his first season, but he will be over 40% by year 3. He will work on whatever his coaches want him too.
Remember when Sura came back from injury how much better the Rockets played?? Sura played great D, but isn't a "great" 3 point shooter, and isn't exactly closing in on Stockton's alltime assist mark. Sura is an adequate 3 point shooter(I think Jack will be better by his 2nd or 3rd season if not his 1st), adequate distributor, and very good defender/hustler. I think Jack in a lot of ways is similar to Sura, but will ultimately be a better NBA player. I think Jacks' gonna be a guy like Sam Cassell... I'm not saying he's got the same skill set, just that he'll always be very solid, a fringe allstar most of his career with maybe an appearance or two.
Jack is a good player. Has good size and strength for a PG, decent shooter, good defender. I don't really think Jack is the type of player the Rockets really need from the draft. Sura and MJ is a pretty decent rotation and hopefully Spanoullis will make the roster and be able to contribute. I would much rather go for a swingman. We need a young SG that can run w/ TMac, rebound, and defend (ex: Josh Howard and Daniels for Dallas). Guys like Rudy Fernandez, Francisco Garcia, and CJ Miles would be nice picks.
i like jack too but i don't see him falling this far. there are a lot of dumb GM's out there but i don't think he'd get all the way to 24.
