With Jaric not happy in Clipperland and looking for a new home, I wouldn't be against having him come here and running our point. He did a good job last year averaging 6.6 assists on a bad shooting team. He's strong enough to endure the long season and plays good defense when on the floor as his steals per 48 min was best in the league last season. The Clipps are in a compromising scenario right now with Bobby Simmons. Yes they are under the cap, but probably don't want to tie up too much money on a backup PG where Livingston is their PG of the future. But, if they lose out on Bobby, then Marko becomes their next priority. Also, I believe Marko is restricted so a S&T becomes our best option in tring to get him. Getting something in return for him is better than losing out all together. We have plenty of veteran players entering their last year and Sura and James having two seasons left. I don't think Dunluvy would be against adding a couple of veterans to a young squad while replacing someone who publicly has said he doesn't want to be there. Jaric would be a good complimentary player to our team since he doesn't shoot the ball alot making T-Mac happy, although he does have a good shooting percentage, likes attacking the basket, and is a strong 6-7 with great handles. Head would feel more comfortable with other good ballhandlers to help distribute the rock and allow him more shots. Jaric would most likely guard the opposing 2/3 while Head could run opposing PG off screens much like he did this past season. Jaric is a very heady (bad pun) player that had great success in Europe with plenty of championships and a gold medal. You gotta admit the idea of Head, Jaric, and T-Mac is intriguing. Wilcox could be a crucial throwin type player since he's been in the coaches doghouse and is on a rookie contract. Jaric and Wilcox for any combination of: Future 1st rounder Sura James Norris Weatherspoon Ward Wesley Howard
Jaric is overrated. He can serve as a second-string PG, but he's definitely not good enough to be a starter. He's too slow and his shooting is streaky. His passing is pretty good. But like I said, he's too slow. He's sort of like an upgraded Sura: taller, better passing. I'm thinking the rockets need someone like billups: quick, strong, can create shot for himself and teammates.
I agree; Jaric is a nice player, but he doesn't fit our priorities, with a key one being to get quicker in the backcourt.
If we could pull off this move, we'd be set without even using the MLE. We'd have a nice 1/2 combo in Jaric that's 6-7 and a fairly decent 4 in Wilcox. We could still use the MLE on Horry, Swift, or whoever. Yea, he's not the fastest, but he's not a defensive liability either. The guy is a tough defender with pretty good athlecism who will be a an upgrade over Sura in every category. And I wouldn't call Jaric slow, he's a little above average with Head and Tracy well above.
I like Jaric, and would actually like to see him as our SG (I always like the idea of a SG with PG skills), but this statement is just ridiculous... Check out the games he's missed the last few years.
True. It's an intriguing combo. He does add an additional dimension to the team, but I rather, first, fill up the gaping holes in our offense/defense than add another dimension. But interesting nonetheless...
Ido you actually think he will play more than 50 games for the rockets !?!? 41, 50, 12 (that is the total games he has started in each of the past three seasons)... heonly appeared in 50 games last year and 58 the year before that ... we already have a broke down player in the backcourt (Sura) and Sura plays with more heart !
The only reason that we're gonna trade Sura is his injury problems. So why do we have to get another one with the same problem? case closed...
Jaric is a nice player, but he is way too injury prone and isn't that great of a shooter. He has good size but he is also kind of slow for a PG. I just don't like the idea of bringing in an injury prone PG after what we went through w/ Sura. 02-03: Missed 16 games 03-04: Missed 24 games 04-05: Missed 32 games I don't like where this trend is going.
by both empirical and anectdotal evidence, the guy's man defense is absolutely atrocious. The point has been made that maybe it's because the Clippers aren't good as a team in that department - maybe so, but that doesn't change the fact that he's slower than christmas and is a matador on the perimeter - which adds up to quick fouls for YM
we need a PG who will discourage teams from the full-court press (a la Dallas vs Houston). This would get the ball out of a tiring McGrady's hands & hopefully result in lay-ups for the Rox. No more slow-footed PGs!
if he played 80 games a year then he would be high on my list. JVG want players that he can count on to play. i think we know where the MLE is going this summer anyway: 1. swift 2. walker 3. simmons 4. marshall - same agent as swift so he is ranked higher that SAR 5. SAR - he didn't list us as a possible destination in a recent article, but people here love him so he is on the list. hpefully we can work out a S&T for one of the first two and save the MLE for the likes of simmons, finley, stoudamire, AD, watson.
I've about had it with these Euro's....... Everyone always loves to rant & rave about their potential and how so & so thinks they FOUND one that can actually play defense and isn't a p***y. Jaric is a decent player but c'mon, we need somebody we can count on to stay healthy (especially in the playoffs). The guy is a restricted FA on top of that, i'm sure there's somebody out there that will overpay for this guy since the Clipps probably won't due to Livingston.
What is Jaric's real position anyway? On his official website he has forward marked down. http://www.jaricmarko.com/html/personal.htm
