http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=afp-basket_nba_tabuse&prov=afp&type=lgns TOKYO (AFP) - Yuta Tabuse has signed for the Phoenix Suns , boosting his hopes of becoming the first Japanese to play in the US National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season, the NBA's Tokyo branch said. The 23-year-old guard, who took part in the Denver Nuggets ' pre-season training camp last year, will join the Phoenix club for the start of the season on October 10. After failing to make the Nuggets' 12-man roster, he helped Long Beach Jam win the independent American Basketball Association league last season. Tabuse played with Brigham Young University Hawaii for three years before joining Toyota Alvark of Japan's Super League in 2002. He quit the Japanese club last year with his sights set on the big-time American league, taking part in Phoenix's camp in July and playing in summer games.
if i'd him, i rather try out for a nbdl team first, then work my way up to the pro. He'll get cut by da suns in no time....
I saw him on the summer league games and was fairly impressed. If Moochie Norris could ever play in the NBA, this guy can.
yeah last year during pre season i saw him play and i was like hmmm never seen him before... They guy was really really quick on his feet and was a good passer as well. His size is an issue but if he can do what boykins and company do he will be decent for a PG.
I know but fifteen, twenty years ago, all you heard was buy American and stuff like that. Things have changed. That's all.
hmm, if he can pass and faster than Ward ... maybe he'd like to make TOYOTA CENTER his home next season?
me being Japanese who's lived in Houston 20 out of 25 years of my life, i'm happy for Tabuse, its our first player to be in the nba. next thing i'm hoping for is that basketball becomes a popular sport and i think this Tabuse kid can do that if "if" he plays... which i doubt, unless Nash and Barbosa both get hurt leaving them with no choice. I know that Tabuse can do anything Moochie or Wilks can do, which isn't saying much, but good luck. I hope you get some PT.
Actually, while Tabuse might be the NBA's first player from Japan, he is not the first basketball player of Japanese descent. That distinction belongs to Wataru "Wat" Misaka. In 1947, the New York Knicks drafted Misaka, the first NBA player of Asian descent, in the first round. Misaka, a 5-7 guard, appeared in three games and scored seven points for the 1947-48 Knicks before he was cut for reasons never made clear to him. http://www.nba.com/features/global_misaka_010417.html
