With the looming news of the readdition of Mike James, our move to get Battier doesn't seem so out of place. By keeping Gay, we would not have room for Mike James. By keeping Swift, we would have wasted "potential" since Swift did not fit our system. By trading Gay and Swift for Battier we gain a decent forward which fills in a gap that Swift had created. Gay might be the best guard in the league in a few years, but we have a decent set of guards as it is. We have the guards to win, we have the forwards to win, and we have the centers to win. What we need is good discipline and chemistry. With that taken care of, we can go as far as the team is willing to go.

    Go Rockets!

ps - I might've been initially mad about Gay, but I prefer James over Gay.

Wait, we couldn't have kept both? I'm still sad about no Gay Head or Gay James :(

I don't understand your logic behind this. First of all, who is Mike Jones? I take it you meant Mike James. Then why keeping Gay prevents us from getting MJ?

yah how does trading Gay not get us Mike James, but yeah I agree it may not have been as bad a trade as every one thought.

I'll be shocked if Sura plays at all this season. I don't know why you're including him on the list of guards.

It doesn't matter. Gay would make JVG play him. Now we have the luxury of playing Battier at 3 and 4 and TMac at 2 and 3 and James at 1 and 2. Gay would have taken Head, Bogans, Novak, Sura, JL3, and Hayes' minutes. As I said earlier, now JVG can get creative with his sets and rotations because pretty much every guy can play multiple positions. That's the luxury you have with Battier, since he can switch down to 3 too.

Short backcourt doesn't matter. It's defense that makes the difference, and Mike James is a top 5 defensive guard in the game.

Don't act like you don't know the name...

Talk about ignroance on my part, I thought Gay was a guard. Still, I do not believe we could've afforded both Gay, Stromile, and James with the current financial situation. So we dump a crappy Forward who didn't fit in our system, a rookie with no motivation, and pick up a decent forward. Profit on our part. Then, we get Mike James who was a success in our system and you are one peice less for solving the puzzle. In fact, the puzzle could very well be solved.
