Read online about Harden committing a lane violation every time he shoots FTs now and started to pay attention. I for sure don't remember him stepping forward this much on his FT attempts before. Wonder why he is dong that now? Is he overcompensating for something? Doesn't have as much leg strength anymore? I feel like that's not proper form and would be less consistent than a normal up and down shooting motion.
Later in games the legs get tired and as a FT shooter in practice you can hit like 95-97 of them in a row. In games you are around 90%. You freeze your upper body motion to be perfect every time like a statue but all of the power comes from the legs/hips and transfers through the body. As a shooter you feel the shot going short because of the strain in the legs so in his case he overextends the follow through to get that extra couple of inches for it to go in. Completing the follow through is not a lane violation because the ball has left the hand but like a golf shot you seeing that overextended follow through underlies that last bit of effort he gave in the legs and shooting arm before the shot left the hand. It's a correcting technique and almost looks like a phantom motion. Its committing to the shot instead of just flicking something. To flick something you have to cut off motion. For that matter look at Klay's 3pt motion. It is really beautiful unlike the flick motion of Steph because he squares his body and uses both arms in a very fluid motion as he jumps forward with a complete follow through. This is what contributes so much to his accuracy and release point at the apex of his jump. Steph's accuracy come from shooting almost sideways to isolate the power push from his shooting arm and he mostly keeps the arm consistent with the release that makes it so good for a quick release.
there was one game the past couple years where he was actually called for it a couple times, forgot who the ref was
