Media just votes for the best headline story. If they can't go yelling about how someone averaged a triple double for a season, then there is no point for them to vote for Westbrook.

Nike just signed that mega NBA deal and is pushing Westbrook. Adidas needs to step their game up.

What are the odds Harden puts together two MVP seasons while his competition puts up media friendly historic numbers?

How many rebounds would Harden need to average to get to 10 a game?

Is it the norm? Only Harden and Westbrook are putting up these numbers. The best player in the world, with the strength of bears, and the vision of owls, Lebron James can barely keep up.

This doesn't have anything to do with history. That is proven by the 0.1 assists lunacy that Broussard just spit out. Curry certainly didn't do anything historic in 2015. He was just the best player on the best team, AKA the narrative that the media needed to push in order to give it to their guy.

I imagine Lebron will benefit again from a narrative push one more time. Probably will never put up the best stats/record again, but there will probably be a year the media shills for a "MVP should go to the flat-out best player, even if it's not the best numbers" narrative to give it to him one last time.

seems that way. and im mainly referring to just the discussions around td's themselves. when guys were getting these in the past, it was a bit of an awe factor. now its as if it happens too often, it's just another night.

With 15 games left in the season Harden only has a total of 529 rebounds.

He would need 291 more rebounds to end the season these last 15 games. That averages to 19.4 rebounds over the last 15 games.

Just insane that credentialed voters would use such minutia to determine their vote. Laughable.

I think too many Rockets fans are worried about Harden being the MVP. I rather see us win a championship then see Harden get the MVP. Harden, imo is the MVP without a doubt. With that said, I'm not going to lose it if he doesn't get it though. We still have some headliner games left on the season. All Houston needs to do is split their remaining games against GSW, beat OKC on prime time, and finish the sweep of LAC. That OKC game is at home and I expect Westbrook to go for 50 that day and get the lost. Voters will see this... We have 7 games left against Western Conference playoff teams. If we go 5-2, that's going to reflect in the voting.

This year we have a shot at the title. I think that's where people are missing the boat on this. OKC has no shot at a title period. At the end of the day, having a 4-man race for the MVP race plays in Harden's favor. If it was just him and Westbrook, I think Westbrook wins based on the media.

Media will keep on media'ing. Honestly, this year should be Harden's 2nd MVP award.

    **** the Harden/Rockets haters.

    Seriously tho, this is nonsense.

The real question is why is Westbrook such a WMVP (Weak Most Valuable Player) candidate?

Is he more selfish a player than James? Or, does he just not have the right players around him?

If he's doing too much on his own, then he's playing himself out of the MVP because it's not enough based on their record.

Averaging a triple double and not winning MVP...that ain't right!

I did the math 5 games or so back when he was at like 8.2rpg and he needed to average like 15rpg for the rest of the season.

Now he's at 7.9 so he would need to become Rodman like to get to 10 by the end of the season.

Harden is going to win MVP guys.

Some of you need to relax lol

Almost everyone that is an actual voter that's not a tv person has harden in the lead.

Even the GMs of the league were polled the other day and the gap harden had as the 1st place guy was larger than what Russ had on Lebron and Leonard for 2nd place.

It's a close race because it's an interesting topic. It gives espn, fox sports illustrated ext. something to debate about.

In reality harden is the most deserving and I know this because he will receive a ton of 1st place votes and anyone who picks somone over harden will undoubtedly pick harden in 2nd place.

Point being is if your voting for Russ then harden is getting every 2nd place vote but if your voting for Lebron or KL than Russ is prob getting 4th place votes will harden is still getting 2nd on those ballots by 85% of those voters. Not to mention harden will prob receive the most 1st place votes anyways.

The narrative is there, The numbers are there. It also lets the voters say "look we don't hate in harden, we rewarded him with the highest honor because his team won" it's a way to cover up there mistake of not putting him on any all NBA teams last year even tho his team still made the playoffs.

And then last thing, the rockets are just really freaking good and it's all because of harden. They have the 2nd best offense of all time there defending at a top 10 level for almost 3 months now and are 14th overall. Guys are having career years around him. Not to mention we have the 3rd best record in the entire league not just the west but the entire league. We also have the third best point differential (big indicator we really are the 3rd best team imo)

When the voters sit down and go over everything I just typed out and what they see will be more in depth than that.

It will be impossible for harden to lose the MVP race this year.

As Steven a. Smith said yesterday if Hardens name is not on that trophy than the voters got it wrong. The dude is special and he deserves it and frankly so do us fans for feeling like we're a 2nd class organization even tho we has proven to be one of the best.

It's become a content generating buzzword...

It's like these guys are doing an experiment with SEO in real life:mad:

"How many times can we say triple double in one segment?"

Last year the buzzword was 3s, this year its triple double...

Westbrook ends season @ 821: "TRIPLE DOUBLE TRIPLE DOUBLE TRIPLE DOUBLE!!!"

Westbrook ends season @ 819: "Wow if only Westbrook's teammates gave him more help:("

Voters vote 1st place-5th place with each candidate getting:
    • 10 points for a 1st place vote
    • 7 points for a 2nd place vote
    • 5 points for a 3rd place vote
    • 3 points for a 4th place vote
    • 1 point for a 5th place vote

Basically if a voter gives Harden 1st place, it will be because they value wins more than Westbrook's triple-double, so it would also make sense that they would have Kawhi and/or LeBron also ahead of Westbrook.

    Example ballot A:
    1. Harden - 10 pts
    2. Kawhi - 7pts
    3. LeBron - 5pts
    4. Westbrook - 3pts
    5. John Wall - 1pt
For Chris Broussard and others who only care about a triple double. They would have Westbrook 1st, but most of them will probably have Harden at 2nd place.

    Example ballot B:
    1. Westbrook - 10 pts
    2. Harden - 7pts
    3. Kawhi - 5pts
    4. LeBron - 3pts
    5. John Wall - 1pt
In these scenerios, Harden gets 17 total points, while Westbrook only has 13 points

I think Harden will be 1st or 2nd on 90% of ballots, while Westbrook might be 1st on 50%, but 3rd or 4th on 30%

Even with logic and reason, the dude couldn't convince a Westbrook Ball Rider.
