I attended the Rox/Laker game last night, and it is now more apparent to me then ever before that each of these players do not fit the dynamic of the rest of the team. Mike James is a shoot first PG that interupts the natural flow of the team. His skills only fit as a bench player in the NBA when the team needs a spark. We can keep him on the team as that, but he is not a starting PG in this league period. Rafer Alston is is a below average PG with poor shooting skills and questionable decision making. He can get by on this team, but he will never be an integral part of a starting rotation for any team that actually does something in the league. Steve Francis is all the above, or a combination of both James and Alston. He is a shoot-first player that disrupts natural flow, and has poor shooting skills with questionable decision making. He is a good athlete that chose the wrong sport. He might have been succesful in college, but in the big leagues he will never be a special player. Bottom Line: The rox need to drop Rafer and Francis, and the seek a PG with high basketball IQ. We do not need a superstar at that position, but we cant have players that set us back with bad habits and poor IQ. We can keep Mike James on the bench as a spark, but something needs to be done. We wont win a title like this. Mark My Words!!!
Theres like 5 other threads this can be discussed? I'll keep it simple. Having a thread for this is frauking stupid, lock please Mike James is our bobby jackson.. No waiiiii!!! rafer isn't a superstar pg.. No waiiiiii!!! Francis dribble the clock down and is turnover prone ect.. No waiiiiii!!! I hear theres much much much better pg free agents on the market that we can sign who can come in and do a much better job then the guys we have.. btw that was me being sarcastic.. No waiiiiii!!!
i don't agree with you on everything. but i don't think this thread should get "locked" just cuz my opinions differ from yours. i think francis will eventually get in game shape and get going. rafer can be the starter, have francis off the bench as the "spark off the bench" and i do agree with you on mike james. he's a good player and all, but he's somewhat of a ballhog. but ya the whole "i don't agree with you lock this thread" is just ignorant. i think.
More-so I just thought this isn't worthy of a thread on it's own, this could have easily been placed in the Grade Your Rockets Players. Give analysis. Did We Really Improve? Mike James should start at PG right now: who agrees? Calling all sane people...end the Reefer Madness already Rafer doesn't belong in the game at the last 5 minutes Adelmans Masterplan w/ First game thoughts How does roster reflect on Adelman? especially the first one in bold. Oh well, thats my opinion, so I posted my opinion (about lock). It's cool to disagree, this thread could be great? Yes great, alongside the other 5 or 6 conversing over the same topic. Grats on post 777, lucky 7's
Right now it is PG by committee and that MIGHT work. I hope AB develops quickly because I could see him as having the speed and handles of Rafer and the shooting skills of James. (but NO size) He had a really unremarkable preseason; I don't know what happened because he was stellar in the summer league. I do wish Francis was in the rotation so we could see what he could do. I think he could help with Bonzi like minutes. If we get another PG, one or two will have to go. I certainly don't see Rafer as the long term solution. The PG's in the SW are soooo good.
nah i get you man, i know why people want to locks this kind of threads, it's pretty much the one thing we're (rox fans) b****ing about these days. the PG situation, ha. oh and thank on the 777. much apreciated.
Things might be simpler if there was simply a sticky thread labeled SF/PG In any case, I think we'd all like to combine Steve, Rafer, and Mike into one point guard that could do a bit of everything, but that's not the way it works. As far as upgrading goes, how? What could the Rockets offer as trade bait? It would take Shane or Scola to get the type of pg that would represent a significant upgrade over what we already have.
One game does not mean a thing when it comes to starting the season with a totally new system. Come April you can book it that this team will be one that can win with Rafer, James, and Francis.
CHALLENGE- when's the last time the Rox had a "pure" point guard who also had shooting skills? Name it. Lest we forget- we were champs in 94 and 95- CF
Steve was a 3 time All-star, career 18-6-6,............ wait why am I responding to this ridiculous "worst post of the year" Thread?
Rafer is killing me with his running floaters. Mike James is killing me with his ballhogging and forced shots. Francis is killing me with his " .... ooohhh poor me, let me just lay there looking bored while all my teammates are cheering and supporting the guys that are playing ... " But I love my Rockets and we will go deep this year regardless
