With Kenny Anderson starting for the Pacers and Anthony Johnson backing him up, Rick Carlisie has left Jamaal Tinsley on the bench. He has gone from a starter to a 3rd string guard. Now we're talking about a good ball handler, passer, a okay shooter (exaggerating but he cant be worse than moochie though) with decent defense who averaged a little less than 10 ppg and around 8 apg. He would definitely serve as a much better backup than Moochie would. I know he would damn well rather play here after being put in Carlisie's doghouse and barely getting any minutes. Maybe we could package in Moochie and Cuttino Mobley for Al Harrington and Jamaal Tinsley. With Pike, AGrif, JJ, Boki.. I think we're pretty set at the SG/SF position. Adding Al Harrington will give us a good PF to replace Eddie Griffin and Mo Taylor while they are out with their problems. Anyways, I'm glad to see that the Rockets are getting off to a good start despite Cheech and Chong leaving us empty at the PF position. Hopefully, their absences won't be that devastating.
Well, there's room for improvement on everything. Yes, we're winning games with this team, but with Moochie averaging a turnover for every minutes he is on the court. Don't you think that with someone like Jamaal Tinsley, we'll have someone running the point that we'd look forward to, not just someone who either loses the ball, misses a shot, or runs down the shot clock every possession. Also, honestly... when Piatowski and Adrian Griffin come back from their injuries... how are we gonna divide the minutes and make everyone happy? Unless we considerably cut down Cat's minutes (and you know he is not going to be happy), Piatowski and A Griff probably won't be used for their full potential. Also, with MoT and EGriff gone, who the hell is going to be our PF? Cato is not Superman, and he won't be able to switch between PF and C the whole game. Torraye Braggs can do our dirty work, but he is nothing more than a Carl Herrera/Chucky Brown roleplayer. As for them, they get Cuttino Mobley, who is a great accomodation to Jermaine O'Neal and Ron Artest, since Reggie Miller is slowly deteiorating.
I think any deal including Jamaal Tinsley would have to include a capable C for the Pacers, otherwise they're pretty stacked at all other positions. Cato is looking DAMN good right now to teams that don't have good C's, basically 20 of 29 teams. I'm sure they would LOVE to have Cato at C. Ofcourse, if we gave up Cato, we'd need a backup C back. There's Pollard and there's Foster, but I'd rather have Foster because his contract is smaller and it would allow us to accumulate the rest of Cato's value at a more critical position. So far, Cato for Tinsley and Foster. Tinsley has been DNP'ed last 3 games, and Cato is a MAJOR upgrade over Foster, and a Cato/Pollard tandem would be superb for them. It seems a bit favourable in the Pacers' favor, so to balance it out and balance out the rosters, we add Mobley (since we have so many 2's, and someone to pick up minutes at the 1) and they throw in Al Harrington. That's perfect for us as it would give us size, the athleticism we lack at the F spots, and someone who can play both F spots and has a nice touch inside. Cato Mobley for Tinsley Foster Harrington Cato/Pollard/Brezec O'Neal/Pollard/Cato Artest/Bender Miller/Mobley Kenny Anderson/Anthony Johsnon/Fred Jones Tinsley wasn't in the rotation, and Foster is clearly not starting material. They're giving up some talent, but getting back 2 hardworking players who will play major minutes, especially considering Miller's age, and Cato's dramatic improvement. We're also giving up 2 VERY valuable commodities, but you have to keep in mind we're getting some damn good talent back, although the 3 of them aren't playing great recently. Not sure abotu the numbers, but I think they'd have to throw in one more player as a filler. Yao/Foster MoT/Griffin/Harrington Harrington/JJ/Boki JJ/Pike/Francis Francis/Tinsley/Mooch Thoughts?
Pike and A Griff haven't even played this season and you guys are already sure we can just ship off Mobley? If Tinsley is so great, why would he be the 3rd string guard? There's got to be something wrong with him?
Harrington is a future star in this league. He has great post moves, and he can hit the three when left alone. I think with a package of Tinsley, Foster, and Harrington; we would soon find that Tinsley and Foster were just "throw ins" in this trade considering how good Al is. Yao/Foster Mo Tay/Braggs/Harrington Harrington/Bokie JJ/Pike/Griffin Steve / Tinsley The PF position would be up for grabs. We could even see a line up of Yao, Harrington, Bokie, JJ, and Steve if push came to shove.
It's true that Pike and Griff haven't played, but they're just backups. JJ would be the starting SG, and Francis is MORE than a capable backup there. With Tinsley rather than Moochie, I'm sure we'd be more and more open to seeing Francis at the 2. It's just the beauty of having a pure PG (Tinsley), a pure SG (JJ) and an Al Star hybrid Guard (Francis). Pike and Moochie will easily gobble up the garbage minutes, and the 3 spot is set with Al Harrington, Boki, and Adrian Griffin. At the 4, Harrington can play more minutes while E Griff and MoT are out, until they come back, then we can play him more exclusively at the 3. One concern I have is Harrington's range, which is very important when playing the big man game. I'd like to see Harrington improve his 3-pt shot as he goes on, that would make him the perfect player for us at the 3. Athletic, long arms, great rebounder, and great inside game whether he shoots the J, drives, or posts up.
mobley is our best shooter right now and none of the pacer or shooters so how will they help an inside out game?
Pike will come back after the Orlando game, and Boki will get more minutes. Mobley is not the best shooter on this team. He's hot right now, and he gets hot very often. But we all know that Mobley also gets cold for looooooooong stretches at a time. Pike and Boki off the bench is enough shooting, JJ and Francis aren't pushovers either.
I would also like Foster, he is a great rebounder and a hard nosed player. Plays good defense and works his butt off. i wouldnt mind trading for him, but who i would trade I Dunno
I like how you just threw Harrington in there like an afterthought. He's definately the best player in that trade. No way Indy would do it.
It's difficult to argue trade suggestions since all trades are largely based on the opinion of what COULD BE, not what IS. Just ask Danny Ainge and Mark Cuban. Personally, I think Mobley is the best player in the trade. Fact of the matter is, Artest is the starting SF, and he will remain there because he's so damn good. They also have Bender on the bench, as well as Croshere - A Bird/Carlisle favourite. What they don't have is a good C rotation - right now Pollard and Foster are playing very poorly, and O'neal is having to carry an extra load. What you're telling the Pacers is, I'll give you a starter, and replace you're 6th man with another 6th man candidate, and in return I want your talented PG who was DNP'ed the last few games as well as your 6th man, bench player who's putting up great numbers. I think they'd go for it. Especially considering the way Cato is playing, and Reggie's age makes it even more appealing for them to have Mobley as their backup SG. You may think otherwise, but I think the Pacers would do it, and would be a better team after the trade. Ofcourse, it's CD and Bird's opinions that count, so debating WHETHER they'd do it any further is pointless. What would be beneficial is debating whether or not the Pacers/Rockets would improve, and how the players would fit in for example.
I think there was a rumor during preseason that Bird had offered Harrington for Cat, so that's plausible. However, I think our needs are at the 4 and backup point. I don't want Harrington, or to give up Cato to get him. Tinsley might be good, but I'm more interested in Charlie Ward. I think he'd suit our backup point needs better.
They would NEVER do it. Al Harrington is a beast, his upside is much higher than Cat Mobley even if they play different positions. Wishful thinking can't hurt though... Oh plus Tinsley is pretty good, at least better than Moochie, doesn't turn it over as much.
Yeah, they might do it. Artest is their best player, locks down the 3. O'Neal at 4. That makes Harrington a bench player, who needs a starter's contract soon. Hence, trade. They shore up the 2 and the 5, we get a good young swing player. On the other hand, they might decide to go with Harrington over Artest if Ron Ron flames again. Doesn't look that way right now, though. In such case, they trade Artest to make room to re-sign Harrington. We'll get a picture by the trade deadline.
Relativist, I'd like to add Ward as well, what do you think it would take to get him from the Knicks? Or should we just wait until he becomes a free agent next year?
