I have serious concerns. The inconsistency and decision making are problems. At this point it is all about maximizing value. The Rockets can still develop Amen and Cam, while giving minutes to Jalen Green. I wanted Mobley/Barnes before the draft and obviously, if the Rockets could have a "do over", they would take one of those guys or Wagner.... but at this point, the Rockets know Green doesn't have a lot of trade value, and there is still a chance he starts to break out. I wouldn't extend him obviously, but I would commit to playing him the rest of the season and see what happens while letting Cam and Amen more minutes.
The Rockets still have another year after this year to figure things out....... The kid had no idea about potential role changes.......
I'm still in the boat of seeing out his entire 3rd year before making more of concrete outlook on who JG is likely to be as a player going forward. I mean there really isn't any other choice and the most logical. But 32 games in, he has without a doubt underwhelmed A good thing is Cam is literally sitting and waiting so the pressure is on. If Cam figures things out quicker than anticipated, he's coming for that other guard spot.
"Ball is not leaving the frame" hahaha as if it's even possible look at ****ing the frame. For ball to leave the frame Jalen has to aim Zeus' ballsack.
They do, but most orgs avoid that situation all together - so I think he is moved this off season, or by the next trade deadline - unless he dramatically improves, which is unlikely given he has played one way his entire career and that is counter to what they are doing now. I could be wrong, but this scenario happens all the time in the league and teams move on.....I suspect the Rox will as well. DD
The Rockets don't have to offer him an extension right now, they certainly don't have to give him the max right now. He is under contract through the end of next year.
By the next trade deadline? Sure, I think if he has clearly fallen behind Cam and Amen, then they move him by the next deadline. As far as this off season? It is possible, IF he doesn't really show improvement and Cam really takes off..... but I expect Green to improve in the second half, and I also expect Cam to run into some issues as well. IF the Rockets could get a lot for Green, I think they would move him now - but that isn't the case.
He has improved defensively and in a few other ways - but I agree with you, he has underwhelmed this season. I expected him to fight playing defense the way Ime expects, and I thought he would possibly buck playing in an offensive system.... but I did expect for him to be up to 23-24 points a game this year, with his issues being playing the right way. Instead, he has improved defensively some and has not fought Udoka - but he has regressed offensively and has gone from a possible 25-28 PPG scoring guard, to a more passive version of Gerald Green. I don't like Tim Legler, but he may be right, if Green doesn't make some progression by the end of the year, he may be a 6th man. My downside concern with Green when we got him was that he could end up like D'Angelo Russell.
I could see him in no man's land because a good 6th man would need commitment and the knowledge how to play the role. This dude seems lost half of the time when his shot is off...... Teams are going to just let him rot if he cannot be a qualified 6th man even..... I am not sure how to upgrade his BBIQ in 2 years time to save his contract....but he better does.... Udoka is playing father figure now with the Carrot and Stick method but I doubt other coaches care that much about Green....
It is not about RIGHT NOW, it is about moving him before you get to the point of only offering him a RFA - teams don't like to be in that situation - the Rox are not going to offer Sengun a full Max and then turn to Jalen and say....hey number 2 pick, you get to set your own market - even IF he does that, the relationship will be strained. This is just business, and Jalen is trending HEAVILY to being traded, probably this offseason, but for sure by next trade deadline. Stone will want to avoid the RFA situation like the plague. DD
If Jalen is still on the team by then, this is exactly what the Rockets shall do. After three full seasons, it's not about draft position anymore, it will be about proven performance. The data is clear. I guarantee you that if you were to let them both become restricted free agents, Sengun would receive several max offers, even if he were to not get better between now and then (but he will). Unless Green becomes much more consistent and better at shooting and everything else between now and then - he will receive none.
Reality check, He's only 21. He's still ahead of schedule. The team has not grown beyond him. We are nowhere near contending and there is plenty of time to let him continue to develop. After 24 you can reassess, but even then, he's already shown enough to keep him around.
Jalen Green will be the Rockets' Numero Uno Is that why the team is producing YouTube video's teaching Fans how to speak in Jalen's native muttering language?
Reality check he turns 22 in a month No you don't have until 24 to reassess. A decision to either pay him or move him will be made well before then if he makes it all the way to RFA at 23 next summer
He's only 19 years old, it's okay that he sucks He's only 20 years old, it's okay that he sucks He's only 21 years old, it's okay that he sucks He's only 22 years old, it's okay that he sucks
He's only 21. Plenty of time to develop a top tier talent under Udoka. This is the process as Udoka has reiterated. Well ahead of schedule.
