Has anyone ever done this? If so how is it working for you? I am thinking about giving it a shot, but it's my understanding that this could void your warranty with AT&T?
I just did this today. It is pretty cool having access to free apps and being able to tether. I believe you can always restore the phone for warranty purposes (I am not sure how hard that is).
Mine's jailbroken so it can work with T-Mobile, and there are so much more useful things you can do to your phone. As for warranty, it's as easy as restoring your phone back to stock to using itunes.
You won't have to pay for texts? Are you still with AT&T or are you with someone else? So when you put it back to the regular version, I am assuming you just accept a AT&T update? Edit: Just saw that a DFU restore removes all traces of jailbreaking, in case something goes wrong.
I did it and I love it ... I mainly like the 3G Unrestrictor so I can use programs like Google Voice and Slingplayer over the 3G connection
It is totally worth it. I have the HTC Sense UI theme for Winterboard and it looks so much nicer than the iPhone's dated look. Free apps is cool too but I don't really use my iPhone for apps much besides the music player and safari. I find iPhone gaming to be really boring.
There shouldn't be any issue with voiding your warranty. If you need to take it in on warranty, all you have to do is restore the phone to factory condition, and they won't be able to tell it was jailbroken.
I have one because it's the best phone/music player combo on the market. It's also the best web browsing experience on a cell phone.
what exactly are the advantages of jailbreaking? can't you tether with the latest 3gs update? other than color schemes, i don't understand what you can do that's all that cool that i already can't?
Actually, the Nokia N900 has the best web browsing experience on a cell phone. No phone in the gamr right now can match it. Fully equipped with Flash 9.4. There is also no need for jailbreaking just to get to phone to its full potential.
Dont use the BlackRa1n jailbreak for older devices (3G and Ipod touch 2G) . Batterylife sucks, and it was unstable for me on a 3G. Use the Pwnage Tool to jailbreak. A few more steps, but it's more stable and no hit to battery life. Iphone 3GS and Ipod touch 3g can only be tether jailbroken, which means u cannot reboot the devices (or completely drain the battery) or u have to redo the jailbreak. BlackRa1n can be used for these.
So everyone has to buy it for it to be good? Didn't say the iphone was bad, but you could see in the specs of the Nokia N900 that their browser and web experience is superior to any other phone. Mainly because its more internet tablet than phone. This isn't your grandfather's nokia phone. A quick google search will show rave reviews. Now, its marketed for the mass public nor is it as user friendly as all iPhone. All I'm saying is that this phone has the best browsing experience of all phones, not the iPhone. That is all I'm saying. I know yall are sensitive about your iphones so don't take this as a knock of that phone.
FYI, pwnage tool is only for Macs. And the Windows port (sn0wbreeze) is still in beta. Haven't had any troubles with blackra1n in 2g. Batery life will suck regardless (especially if you run all the resource heavy programs like Winterboard).
Blackrain I did it and my phone is now twice the phone it was. Do you have a 3G or 3Gs? If you have a 3G you can restore voice commands that are only activated in 3Gs. Tether is a great advantage. Just making your phone look and feel the way you want is great. The number of usefull apps is almost endless for the my phone. If you need to take your phone to the Apple Store for some reason just use Itunes to return it to the default settings.
