HONG KONG — Jackie Chan says the third installment of Rush Hour is stuck in neutral because co-star Chris Tucker is making too many demands.

"He wants too much power. The movie company hasn't obliged. He wants final editing rights and the final look at the movie and so on," Chan told The Associated Press Thursday.

Chan called Tucker a "good friend" but questioned whether he had the stature to be so demanding.

"He's still a new actor," Chan, 51, said. "How many movies has he made? Two movies have already made him very famous and made him a lot of money."

"He needs to learn slowly," he added.

A call by The Associated Press to Tucker's publicist, Samantha Mast, wasn't returned Friday.

While Rush Hour 3 remains in limbo, Chan said he's going ahead with another project — one with famed Chinese director Zhang Yimou. Zhang's recent films include House of Flying Daggers and Hero.

Chan declined to reveal details of the movie, saying only that it would be "galvanizing" and is set in the 1980s. He said the idea is his, but Zhang will work on the script.

"He relies on imagination ... like an arrow flying through water," said Chan. "He has elevated the martial arts genre. I believe he can make any type of movie now."

I think the fact that there's a Rush Hour 3 will ruin Rush Hour 3.

...no, the fact that it's Rush Hour 3 is what is ruining Rush Hour 3.

The first one was excellent, but the second one was pretty weak. I'm pretty confident that this one will bomb and the public won't be subjected to any more...

Is Chris Tucker worried about his film legacy? The guy has made his fair share of crap. And I enjoyed both Rush Hour movies.

Isn't this the same reason why he was not in Next Friday and the Friday After Next? He can easily be replaced.

Interesting. Hero was so-so but beautiful, and I really liked House of Flying Daggers.

I felt just the opposite. Hero was bad-ass. Flying Daggers had a lot of pomp but it didn't amount to much in the end. In any case, I'm much more interested in what Jackie Chan might do with Zhang Yimou than anything he's done with Chris Tucker.

Interesting. Hero's story was incredibly lackluster for me, and the action scenes didn't seem to build to any real excitement. Flying Daggers felt like a much more complete movie, with great one-on-one fighting.

In any case, I think seeing Chan in possibly a good role (it's been a while) is definitely a plus.

Sadly, I think his humor was what was missing out of the "Fridays" other than the first one.

Can't stand this TUCKER guy's mousey voice in any other movies but paired with CHAN he was doing well in the first two Rush movies. That Fifth Element was what did it for me, I couldn't take more of his squeaky voice. Friday wasn't even funny, it's full of slapstick humor that doesn't even make you think, it's just silly and kiddie-like, aside from all the cursing. Can't you make a movie without cursing so much?

Do like Jamie FOXX. Get out of that loudmouth characterization and do some different roles.
Do like Tom Hanks, act in something other than a comedy for once.
Do like Denzel Washington... oh wait, no, he's the same guy in EVERY FREAKIN' MOVIE.

Denzel plays the same role in every movie? Maybe you should watch something other than Training Day or Man on Fire.

And if Friday isn't funny then you're Andy ****in Kaufman.

OK, of those two movies that you mentioned, I hadn't seen them and already I had thought he was the same pompous, i-am-the-boss-here-and-nobody-can-tell-me-otherwise character. I see Man on Fire, and I think it was a great story, but still, SAME CHARACTER. Then, someone says, "dude, he plays a good role in Training Day, see that one" so I did. Nope, same dude. I am the boss here and nobody can tell me otherwise pompous dude. I haven't seen him do a role where he can laugh for a while at himself for being clumsy, or being dramatic, without being a self-absorbed guy. C'mon, now, you must see this. Bruce Willis is another one with the same characters everywhere.
