More...sign him for dirt cheap. Yeah it's division 3, but still not many players can do this once yet alone twice. He can be our 3 pt specialist. For those of you who haven't heard, he scored 138pts last November and now he scored 109 pts the other night. He shot 24/48 on threes. That's 50%! Anyway, I think he's worth a look. If he sucks, send him to the d-league or waive him. What have we got to lose? http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebasketball/story/ncaa-record-holder-jack-taylor-scores-109-points-for-division-iii-grinnell-111713
He should find a spot in the NBA, if you can shoot 50% from three against any competition that is money!
It's a gimmick system; Grinnell's O is designed to shoot as many shots as possible as fast as possible. They routinely break team/individual scoring records. Look at this quote: "Whereas Grinnell typically will have 12 to 15 players log 10 to 15 minutes per game to keep them fresh enough to thrive in the school's trademark pressing, run-and-gun system, occasionally the Pioneers will alter that approach. They'll let one player log 28 to 35 minutes against an overmatched opponent and seldom run back on defense in an effort to take aim at individual scoring records."
The GRINNELL basketball program is a scam and a disgrace to organized basketball. This guy is a glorified scrub.
This is his 138 game <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/NHsjK2mQ_Zg?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/NHsjK2mQ_Zg?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object> he could make it in this league.....
You know he's only 5'9, right? Shooting isn't going to make the cut alone at thT height. I take he's a shooting guard too
Such a ridiculous system. And they deliberately try to set records against crappy opponents (even by d3 standards). I don't think the school he scored 138 against is even an NCAA program. I hope no one actually believes he's an NBA talent.
That is true, but the fact is he did make 24 of 48 threes during a game. 50%, that is pretty impressive. I'm not saying that makes him NBA talent but you gotta admit that is impressive
He should never step on any basketball court (D1, NBA, Europe, DLeague) with actual competition. The Grinnell system is a disgrace to basketball. Edit: it's not Taylor's fault, but really the coaches for running that system. Taylor is probably just following orders.
The Grinnell system is a gimmick that would probably never work at a higher level (see: Westhead's attempt to turn the Nuggets into a scoring machine in the early 90s); however, it has worked to turn that Division III program into a perennial loser to a competitive squad. I also think that there is some logic to their system, which is essentially to force turnovers and exchange 3 for 2. But the idea of using a "designated shooter" seems counter-productive to winning and is likely more for the media attention. The idea that this guy could thrive in the NBA is completely ludicrous, though. You could sub in any number of good shooters into that role and they'd do the same thing-- he's essentially playing half-court and getting screened for looks the whole game while his teammates do the work of pressing, rebounding, and feeding him the ball.
