Let's say the trade is finished. Deal is done, all players and draft picks decided, Salary cap works. Only one thing left to be decided, and you get to choose: Who do you trade and who do you keep and why? Both drafted in the same year. Smith 3rd and Tari in the high teens (17 I think). Late in the year when Thompson went down and coach had to pick a starter, he went with Eason. That surprised me because Smith was the starter before he got hurt. But as I watched the game I realized that Eason is a better defender and I better defensive player too. At least at the time. Still I would keep Jabari Smith and Trade Tari Eason - here is why: #1 Injuries. Tari has been hurt every year. I think the same leg too. Missed games and couldn't play back to backs. Can we pay a guy huge money for half the games? #2 Bone headed plays. Tari has made way too many for such a short career, and some at the end of games. Hey every player makes them, including Smith, but I have seen a pattern with Tari. That's my choice. I love them both and hope we don't trade either!
Taris bball IQ prevents him from being a starter. He's basically a less athletic Josh Smith with better shot selection. Really hard to win with him getting major minutes
Really depends on the already-locked trade you're talking about. Who are we getting in the trade? Who else are we sending out?
I love Tari but I think I would easily keep Bari. Long, 3-and-D wing defenders like Tari are very common in the NBA. To me, he's Trevor Ariza with an insane motor that also causes him to sometimes do dumb crap (like constantly undercut 3 point shooters even after the basketball gods saved him in that Cavs game). Bari on the other hand... 6'10" guys with the agility, jumpshot, and defense (physical tools - Bari's team defense IQ/awareness needs to improve) that he has are NOT common. Bari is also 2 years younger, less injury history, perfect complement to Sengun, a dawg on the boards, and seems to be one of the few young guys on our team who doesn't shrink from the moment. His lateral quickness / ball handling on offense are kind of disappointing, but given his height and jumper, I think he could become a poor man's Lamarcus Aldridge. I think we've really underutilized him in our offensive sets thus far.
Bari easily his shot more consistent his head is in the game more consistently he’s not afraid to share the ball he doesn’t commit stupid 3pt fouls several times a year layups - they are about even Turnovers - they are about even Health - Bari
Tari is a much better player at this time than Jabari. Not only is he a better defender but he can clearly do more with the ball. His energy when he comes into the game is a weapon. Ime appreciates him. So do I. Jabari is the Jalen Green of the frontcourt. Lots of potential but just a mediocre player at this time. Jabari dribbling the ball makes me nervous. I think Jabari fits the roster better though. Amen and Sengun are clearly our top 2 players and we need shooters around them. Jabari's ceiling as a floor spacer is much better than Tari's. Jabari also brings good defensive potential and solid rebounding. I would ultimately keep Jabari but it would hurt to see Tari go. If possible, I would rather keep both and trade Jalen Green.
I'm not the OP but for the sake of discussion let's say it's a Giannis trade- Alpi, Jock Landale and Holiday (plus draft compensation) for Giannis. In that case, I keep Jabari Smith as the long-term piece.
You have to run plays for Smith, Eason you don't. The only thing bothers me about Eason is his injury history. In the grand scheme, Eason is a more natural, fluid basketball player.
If it’s a Giannis trade I guess u have to keep Bari, basically because we need shooters, and Sengun is probably gone so Bari’s front court versatility would also be important. But Tari has the killer instinct that Bari lacks. I sincerely believe we’d regret trading Tari.
The fact that we're questioning whether to keep our 3rd pick who has been a starter since day one and relatively healthy over our 17th pick bench player who has been injured for over half of his games the past two seasons says a lot about the former -- and it's not good.
It’s Jabari by a mile. People fail to realize that he is only 21 years old. With a competent offensive coach he would average 20-10 and play great defense. Tari is a career bench guy with an injury history and is two years older. Unfortunately, if it’s a blockbuster trade the other team will probably demand Jabari. I’d like to keep Tari, especially over Dillon.
