J.R. Smith Not Going To Participate In Summer League, Expects Trade
    3rd July, 2006 - 8:45 am
The Times-Picayune - The Hornets wanted guard J.R. Smith to participate with the team's summer league team, but according to The Times-Picayune Smith expects to be traded and as a result will not be participating.

With the Hornets coming to terms with guards Peja Stojakovic and Bobby Jackson, playing time for Smith appears to be scarce. Smith already spent a lot of last season in coach Byron Scott's doghouse, and with Scott signing an extension a few weeks ago it's apparent there will be no coaching change in New Orleans any time soon.

"If a trade happens, it happens," Earl Smith, JR's father, said. "It doesn't matter to us really, but he's not playing in summer league. Why play if he's going to be traded?"

If you could post a link to the real source rather than RealGM, I'd appreciate it. Most of the RealGM stories are copy-pastes of the real article.

    Thanks ...

I don't think I'd want this kind of guy on my team. I'd actually prefer him to talk about resting injuries and rehabilation before b1tch1ng and moaning about being traded.

Summer League is about working on your game, working on a team game understanding, and just spending time in competition. JR Smith is still young, and he really seemed like a good guy in those "Rookie" documentaries years ago. That's why this is all a bit disappointing.

I think more than anything, it would be key to have a real heart-to-heart with JR and determine his charachter and the sincerity of his passion for playing ball before bringing him into our organization.
