That speech by the president of NARAS was absolutely pathetic. To spend over a minute berating music fans essentially waving his finger saying, "For shame" because of downloading all the while wearing a nice Armani suit was maybe the most sickening thing I've ever seen on those awards and I saw Milli Vanilli win an award!

Everyone here, I'm sure, knows that I am no fan of MP3 downloading but to stand up there and grandstand sucked, sucked, SUCKED!!!

Way to completely gloss over the artists new collective attempt to band together for more opportunity. Way to ignore the fact that the Grammy's are the worst representation of modern music. It didn't take a genius to see that when they paid tribute to Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney!!!

    Man, that pissed me off.

By the way, if you think the MP3 thing is bad, the music industry is lobbying the US Copyright Office to force internet radio sites to pay not only the fees they already pay to ASCAP, BMI and other royalty collection agencies but to pay ONLY the 5 major record labels for use of their song. Not only do they demand pay that regular broadcast radio stations don't pay (most of whom are owned by the Big 5 labels) BUT, they don't even want to include the indie labels who probably need the most help.

God, the music industry is HORRIBLE!!!

    Ditto.

Seriously Jeff, why would you subject yourself to the Grammies? If you wanted to watch mindless entertainment, Dumb & Dumber was on the WB. And at least that's funny (or intentionally so).

"How come everyone else gets an award, I never win anything."

    'Dad, you won a Grammy"

"I mean an award that matters"

*The producers of the Simpsons would like you to know that they do not share this opinion, in fact, they don't consider a grammy an award at all.

I watch more to see what interesting outfits Britney and Christina come up with. Britney actually looked very nice tonight, even if her hair was fake. :)

Milli Vanilli exposed the grammies for the sham they are
    Not because they lipsinced
but because once they were found out .

The grammies DID NOT goto the singers. . . they just took them
i mean if it is all about the music. . then why not give them to the
    actual singerS?

I hate award shows. . . they absolutely suck
This act does not surprised me. . . . the arrogance at these shows
    bugs me

not only am I immensely popular
making millions .. but i need to be further grandized
    with a statue

nothing like watch a bunch of millionaires pat each other
    on the back . . .
and most times it is base on elitist bull**** criteria
we know blah blah sold the most this year and most folx like them
but Jethro Tull was a tour the force.. . . you people just don't get
Jethro tull . . so we THE ENLIGHTENED have gave him this award
so that we may EXPOSE you unclean masses to him.

[nothing against jethro . . but i remember metalist hating him in
there catergory last year or something ]

jeff, have you not seen that same chortling, holier-than-thou-since-I'm-cooler-than-no-thous buttplug NARAS president get up and give his sermon in grammy years past?

that guy and his yearly speech is the reason why they make handguns where you can't shoot them into the TV and have it work.

which is to say: he sucks.

we need to start our own Music Awards here on the board. we can call them The Clutchies.

I hereby nominate my band, The lower Frequencies, for a Clutchy for our debut record, Plan To Steal The Stars.

I will nominate us in the Alternative Music category, since I figure we're about as Alternative as Coldplay.

then again, the tv show That's Incredible from the 80s is about as Alternative as Coldplay.

acutally, it would be kind of cool to make a Clutchy compilation of songs from all the members of the board who are in bands.

anybody want to make it happen? I'd be interested in hearing music by other boardmembers.

I don't think he got booed. I wasn't really paying attention but he said something like 3 high school students were selected to spend a day downloading songs. Each student downloaded 6,000 songs a piece. Now multiply that by the number of people who download songs and you'll see we have a problem...
He went on about how this is for the fans etc...
    I don't know I turned it off.
