Yesterday, I took my sick puppy named Tiny to the vet because he was lathargic, not eating or drinking, and blood in his stool and vomit. They wanted to put him in the hospital, however, I coudn't afford it. So, they gave him some IV fluids and a shot for his upset stomach and diarahea. He came home, went to sleep. That night, I was sleeping and he comes up to me and wants to sit on the couch with me. I thought he was getting better; but then my wife walks in and he is sinking his head in my stomach. So we pick him up and his head is drooping. We were very scared and took him to the emergency vet and they gave him fluids but he was in a no response state. He was breathing, but not responding. So we took him home and watched him, gave him some sugar on his gums, meds, and pedialite. He starting seizing real bad, 2-3 in a row, one lasted about 30 minutes. He never came out of that one. So, I buried him this morning. +RIP Tiny Medrano + [/IMG]
I'm so sorry. I lost a puppy to Parvo about 15 years ago. It's a heartbreaking experience. So sorry, man
I lost a few puppies to parvo about 8 years ago. Did he have his shots? Mine were exposed to the outdoors without the proper shot and that is how they got it.
I'm so so sorry Tim. As a recent/current first time dog-owner, I can't imagine losing Molly right now. Especially with all that's happened in my life this year. A small bit of comfort (as cliche as it sounds) is that he's not suffering anymore. RIP Medrano.
Sorry to hear about that. My parents bought a lab puppy and it got parvo. Somehow, it survived and got better. They apparently took the puppy to a dog park when they shouldn't have...as puppies are susceptible even with shots apparently. Any idea how your puppy might have gotten it?
My understanding is puppies...especially younger puppies...should not be exposed to dog parks or you are taking a chance...especially being exposed to other dog poo. My parents' lab was up on all its shots and still got it. They think that is where she got it. Vaccinations take time to work and are not instantaneous. It takes time for puppies to build up immunity.
Thanks everyone for your support. Its REALLY HARD right now. My other chi, his brother is taking it hard too. They spend everyday, every moment together up to this point. We're trying really hard to give him plenty of love. Thanks again...
RIP Tiny. My black lab Hank was pretty sick last week. The vet said its been getting around. Sorry to hear that bud.
