So, I've finally converted all my wmas over to iTunes and now I would like to copy all my songs to discs as my laptop seems to be on its last legs (unless any of you have a suggestion for why the power cord won't stay plugged in). I tried putting them on discs yesterday, but I kept getting an error. All it said was "error burning playlist to disc" and it had a four-digit number I believe started 48. Suggestions?
I've noticed that disc burning can be an issue between the drive and the type of disc you use. You'd THINK that all CD's would work with all drives, but some drives are fussy about what they'll accept. With my drive, the last batch of CD's I bought only worked about 60 percent of the time. You can also store them to a DVD or CDR just as files. You couldn't listen to the CD's, but your files would be backed up in case of a crash.
Your power chord not staying plugged in is usually a death sentence for a laptop. The power plugs are typically embedded on the mobo...the fix is to replace the mobo. Good luck with that one. If you are just looking to archive your music, why don't you just burn a data disc using explorer?
If you have a bunch of songs (like me) then you might think about investing in an external USB 2 hard drive to back your music up on. I actually have 2 so I have a back up of my back up.
That's what I was trying to do. I was trying to burn a data file on a CDR...does that work? That's pretty much what I've been told. It'll stay in with various contraptions. It's all MacGyvered up. How do I do that? In addition to ima's question, how much does that old? I have around 7.65mb of music that I need to save before the crash. Thanks guys.
It may be trying to burn it as an audio CD instead of a data CD. Go to Edit -> Preferences and click the advanced tab, under that click the burning tab and make sure either mp3 cd or data cd is selected.
Have you tried different playlists? And do you get the error on all of them? Regarding burning through explorer, if you have Windows XP CD burning is built into the OS, otherwise you would have to download software to handle it.
If the iTune songs are on your iPod then another option would be to go www.ipodlunge.com and download podutil. this program allows you to move the songs from your iPod to another computer. or if you want instant gratification click on this link. http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/ PS This program is not Apple approved for obvious reasons.
There are 2 types of CDs to make. Data CDs and Music CDs. The error you are getting implies that you are trying to create a music CD since you get the "can't burn playlist to disc". What program are you trying to use to create the data CD? As far as I know, iTunes will only burn music CDs. My guess is that you are using iTunes to burn a playlist to CD that contains more than 700 MB (or so) of data.
Yeah, that may be the route I go. I just added over 1,000 songs this week to my iTunes. Time to start adding those to my iPod.
In iTunes, it gives me the options of creating a music disc, mp3, or data. None have worked and the last error was when I was trying to create a data CD. The playlist had around 697mb of songs since the CD I was using burn the music to could hold 700mb.
another option is useing your iPod as a storage device. When you have it plugged into your laptop click on the ipod icon (should display Notes, Calendar, etc folder), open up the file were all your music is and just drag the file into the ipod icon. Edit: This circumvents iTunes restrictions.
This 250gb hard drive is $89.95 after rebate. For $100 you can have plenty of space to back up all your stuff. http://www.buy.com/prod/Fantom_Tita...0_External_Hard_Drive/q/loc/101/10384871.html
right, or just drag the files onto disks to burn as data. the best solution is an external hard disk as backup, as mentioned earlier. we are talking a few hundred bucks here, but this gives you room to grow.
You could also backup the folders themselves. When I go to backup my music, I just make a copy of the files and paste them to my backup hd.
