Let's get this straight, the Ruler of the Rockets is Rick Adelman. http://www.nba.com/coachfile/rick_adelman/ Known around the league as a basketball teacher with an ability to mold a team’s style of play around the strengths of his players, Adelman’s coaching highlights include a pair of NBA Finals appearances (1990 and 1992 with Portland), four trips to the Western Conference Finals (1990-92 with Portland and 2002 with Sacramento) and four division titles (1990-91 and 1991-92 with Portland; 2001-02 and 2002-03 with Sacramento). Adelman has been runner-up for NBA Coach of the Year honors three times (1990-91 with Portland; 2000-01 and 2001-02 with Sacramento). He has also coached the West Team in the NBA All-Star Game on three separate occasions (1991 with Portland; 2001 and 2003 with Sacramento). Adelman has been named NBA Coach of the Month five times over his career. Adelman’s trademark offenses have finished among the top five in the NBA in scoring on 12 occasions over his head coaching career. He has had three additional teams rank in the top 10 in points per game. His teams have also shown a great balance on the defensive end of the floor. When matched with pace of play, Adelman has had five squads (four with Portland and one with Sacramento) finish in the top five in scoring defense. Prior to joining the Rockets, Adelman recorded a 395-229 (.633) record in eight seasons as head coach of the Kings. He guided Sacramento to playoff appearances in each of his eight campaigns, compiling a 34-35 (.493) mark in the postseason. Sacramento won 50 or more games in five consecutive seasons (2000-01 through 2004-05) under his leadership, including back-to-back Pacific Division titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. Adelman became the winningest coach in Kings franchise history with a 94-92 victory at Indiana (3/19/04), surpassing Les Harrison (295) on the team’s all-time wins list.

at the end of the day, players play the games, and they win the games. however, rick is off to a great start in houston. here's to more success in the years to come.
Cause Rick is the only person on the Rockets to lead any team to 2 NBA Finals. Can you name me a player on the Rockets who's led a team to the NBA finals twice?
this is true, I hope Rick finds the right combination of players like those Blazer teams of the 90s. A nice balance of offense and defense, a team that was fun to watch. And yes I'll take Duckworth and Buck Williams on my team, they aren't fragile players.
my point is there's nobody on the Rockets except Rick with that leadership experience of leading a team to the NBA Finals twice. I'm sure a bunch of people here 'what if' there way to the nba finals with nba2k video games, but that crap doesn't count.
People are always questioning Rick's motives. Remember the ' We want Steve? ' chants? I love Steve too, but Rick knows how he is in practice. I mean seriously, anyone here actually think they can coach an NBA team? and even demand the respect of Rocket players? Oh hell no. they are jesters when Rick is the Ruler. people talk about "What if" scenarios. Guess what? Rick controls the scenarios, he's the coach of the Rockets. some people here can't even beat the computer on NBA2K9 and think they can beat the Portland Trailblazers in real life as a coach? Please.
it was a light jab, but dude i AGREE with you. i rarely question rick's coaching tactics like i did with JVG (though i've learned to respect the guy a whole lot--the talent was just not there for him). the ONLY problem i have with rick is sometimes he's too nice. 1) when tracy sucked last year, i wish he would have just told him to sit his ass down b/c he was hurting the team. 2) when ron was jacking up shots that had zero chance of going in, he doesn't tell ron to go into the post. or when ron freelanced, rick should have told him, "ron, you are not that good." 3) and the wafer situation. i think several instances have happened before until rick finally told him to know his role. rick is a great coach in my eyes (a top 5 coach in today's league). but that's the only thing that irks me (but he IS a player's coach).
I think this is the first time Rick had to deal with a diva like Tracy. When he had Drexler, you never hear of any of these scenarios. I agree, I thought Ron and Rick had a good relationship in Sac town, but for whatever reason Ron's offense sucked and Rick was thinking that he would eventually turn it around. Maybe it takes alot to get in Rick's doghouse. he gave Wafer too many chances.
hmm, the subject of Rick Adelman brings such emotion. It's like Juanes deciding to do a concert in Cuba. Rick is like Juanes, he knows how to make people move.
I doubt many of you know about Rick Adelman's coaching career. If you think Rick Adelman is just famous for coaching the team that let Robert Horry hit that 3 at Staple Center, then you don't know about Rick Adelman. That's like if you think Ice Cube was just a comedic actor.
