I know this will sound crazy to some people, but I truely believe that the Rockets will be much better off if they bring on a true PG (Someone who does not care much for scoring and looks only to pass the ball, for ex: Eric Snow type). Franchise is an all-star, we all know that already. But in order for him to make that transition to superstardom he will need to leave his current position and do what Iverson did, move to the two-guard position. It is my personal belief that SF will never reach his full potential as long as he is always looking over his shoulder to try and please his teammates by BEING a point guard. The guy is a true scorer, just like AI. Now people will talk about Mobley being unhappy about him coming off the bench. But I doubt he will be any less productive for the team as he would be able to provide an instant spark offensivley for us will be able to ballhog all he wants off the bench, for no one will dare tell him to pass the ball. On the Contrary, people will root for him to take every shot, and he will make many of them. This idea would sound crazy if someone said it last year or the year before it, bu now that we have a distant-to-be great center in Ming, it is more than a handfull to try and pass the ball to him and Stevie, and who knows may be Griffin in the future. One more thing, I think Steve would be the first and biggest supporter of a move like that. It would free him up to do what he loves to do, and what we need him to do, and that is scoring.

Who was Jordan's pg? Who was Hakeem's pg? Is that what you want?

What a brilliant, original, well thought out idea.

I like how in the topic you declare it's Time! yet in the poll you ask if we'd be supportive. Sounds like the only person you're trying to poll is yourself. Why don't you guess my answer. More mindless drivel. This place keeps it coming at an alarming rate.

Mindless?? Hardly! You don't think Steve would be better acclimated to the SG position and would play better there? Give me a freakin break! And why the hell are you hanging on technical terms?

Well, all these people are criticizing you. Yet they don't criticize Rudy T. for moving Steve to the SG position and having Moochie Norris take over the PG position in the 4th Quarter.

I wonder why? Maybe they never want to criticize anybody? Hmm...

I'd prefer either Francis at PG or a Snow type instead of Moochie Norris.

It's mindless because this gets posted by newbs every other day. Redundant unoriginal threads are mindless. And no I don't think Steve would be better at the 2 spot. Which do you like better, Steve/Cat or Steve/Moochie? This Rockets do not need a true point guard. With the team ball movement that is developing, the ball will be less and less in Steve's hands in terms of creating. Welcome to team basketball. It's a beautiful thing to watch.

Well said. Team basketball is the key! Everybody should get involved.

This thread is in the worst timing too. Rockets played beautiful team basketball last night. All starters are in double-figures. This remind me of the game in Sacremento - except we are on the better side.

I am still pretty new at this. I have not really paid attention to the fact that it gets listed often. I will try to be more selective of my topics next time. Thanks

Thumb up for admitting mistakes. Don't take it personally. When I first came here, I also wanted to start a thread every five minutes. Later I realized that I could contribute more constructively by participating after reading carefully what other posters were trying to say, rather than throwing out random thoughts at people. After all, we all want clutchcity to stand distinguished from the pack.

    Only my personal thoughts, though.

As good as Steve could be at the SG spot, I don't think there is a point guard out there that you could combine with out backcourt that would make them better than Francis/Mobley, outside of two franchise players (Payton, Kidd). Sacramento did quite well in the playoffs with a scoring point guard. Mike Bibby is hardly pass first. If it makes you feel better, call Mobley the point guard (he starts the play many times anyway) and Francis the SG. It doesn't matter what you label them. Francis needs to guard the worst backcourt player on the other team though, just like Iverson does, because we have about the two worst defensive PGs in the NBA.

I don't think we necessarily need a prototype point guard. When we won in 93-94 and 94-95, Kenny Smith was a good passer but his three point shooting was key, you don't think of him as an all time great. When the one guy in the middle gets all the attention, you can work from him out of multiple coverage like the Rocks were able to do or the Lakers currently do with Shaq ( but they use Kobe as a point guard sometimes, too ) and exploit open 3 pointers. We have the discussion all the time - the current Lake show and the previous Rockets champions distribute assists around. Recent previous champions - Detroit - Isiah - all time great point guard, Lakers - Magic - all time point guard, Chicago - MJ - all time great 2/3, Rockets/Lakers - dominating C journeyman or a bit better point guards.
Rockets with Yao - having a super athletic scoring guy at the 1 who isn't a prototypical assist guy isn't a weakness necessarily if we exploit multiple coverage or zones on Yao.
