...unless you're at Wrigley in Chicago where it's a real tradition.

I just watched some dude throw back a home run by the Rockies. I think that's dumb. If I'm at a game and I catch a ball you better damn well believe I'm keeping it. To me that's a lot more meaningful than fighting over a freaking foul ball.

A-freaking-men. I've been hating that crap for a while. When did this start happening (outside of Wrigley Field)?

    I wouldn't do it.

BUT...when I go see the Astros play at opposing stadiums (has happened often), I would throw back a HOME team homerun any chance I get. Haven't caught one yet.. very close twice.

So what happens to those fans at Wrigley that keep visiting team home run balls?

You ALWAYS throw back an opposing team's home run. PERIOD. You're not a true fan if you don't.

You may as well start rooting for the Jazz now.

Whatever. I'd throw it back. No question about it.

I'd only keep it if it were one of those million-dollar homers that broke a record or something.

it's not really the fan that threw it back is that stupid, it's the stupid fans that pressure whoever caught the ball to throw it back...from my experience most of the fans who caught it don't want to throw it but was pressured by these stupid fans. I mean catch if yourself and throw it back...leave those alone who wants to keep the ball.

Do what you gotta do, it's your perogative. Just leave people like us alone who wants to keep that ball.

You know that a lot of Cub fans bring their own crappy ball. And when they catch it, they keep the one they caught and throw their own ball over right?

    I know it.

    I agree completely.

I caught Bobby Estelalla's 40th career homer a few years back at the Juice Box, and everyone wanted me to throw it back.

    Fools.

I'd say throw the ball at Borkowski and bean him in the head if he's in the bullpen, but, more than likely, he's the pitcher that gave up the home run...

You all don't understand, you don't throw back the balls

The only reason they throw balls back in wrigley is because each person already has a ball, theres no need to have more then one, its selfish... even by their low standards

It's not my fault the Cubs always suck

Do we really have such a shortage of baseballs that you need to keep a ball hit to you by an opposing player?

And would your story really be all that interesting later on?

"Daddy, why is this ball up on the fireplace?"
"Well son, Daddy caught that ball one time at an Astros' game."
"Oh wow! Who hit it? Was it Jeff Bagwell? Craig Biggio?"
"Actually no, it was Derrek Lee."
"Wow! I didn't know he played for the Astros!"
"Actually, he didn't. He was playing for the Cubs. He hit a home run in the fifth inning and gave the Cubs the lead. They went on to win the game."
"I thought we were Astros fans."

I thought we were, too, kid. I thought we were, too.

If you're at your team's ball game, theoretically you're a fan of the team. Fans usually want their team to win. Their team winning usually involves not giving up home runs to the opposing team. Why on earth would you ever celebrate the opposing team hitting a home run as a supposed "fan"?

Throw it back. Throw it hard.

It's like finding a wallet with fifty dollars in it. Yeah you can keep the money. Or you can turn the wallet in to its rightful owner. Yeah, you won't have anything to show for it. But at least you can walk away knowing you did the right thing.

As soon as I have children and they're old enough to understand the idea of team loyalty, I plan to teach them that you always ALWAYS throw back the other team's home run balls.

    It's what true fans do.

unless it's worth $2 million or something
