Austin still has the best live music venues in the nation period. No other city caters to the musician better than my hometown. Of course if you want to get paid $$$$, you will start a cover band and play 94.5 the buzz songs at Sherlock's or Sam's Boat in Houston. FYI: Hole in the Wall (another original Austin staple for live music) will be closing within the next couple of months. So get out there and support live music in Austin, before we subcum to the perils of cheesy 6th street shot bars (GASP!!). God I miss Liberty Lunch! Thank you and goodnight..... ...i never went into holein the wall. id walk by there alot. i remember walking by there one time on my way to my xgirlfriends dorm, and some band inside was covering where is my mind by the pixies. it was beautiful. i just leaned up against the wall and listened. that b!tch could wait.
Isn't that the truth! There was NO place better in austin to catch a band play than liberty lunch. It was such a basic venue, but it attracted solid talent, and quite often the bands would hang out after the show and talk to the fans and stuff. It's a shame that of all the things losing out in austin due to the influx of corporations and all, the live music scene would be one of them.
Trust me - it's a living, but hardly "$$$$" What's sad about the bands that w**** themselves out on the Richmond Strip is that they often start as (mostly) original bands. Dennis Lange gets ahold of them like some stereotypical pimp picking up the fresh faced "actresses" just off the bus, and it is game over....
Wow, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I used to "date" 2 girls that worked for his agency.
What's 94.5 the Buzz? Is that anything like 101.5? edit: nevermind, looks like you were talking about Houston.
