Alright, I'm looking at these for Christmas presents. A few questions: -Anyone know where a good deal is? -Other than storage, do they come with all the apps? (mainly mp3, movies, and safari) -Does Safari come with it, or is there a monthly charge? -Are there any other extemporaneous charges associated? -What are some cool features that can be added on? -Any other info? Thanks for any input.
- Most apple product prices are set in stone, unless you want a refurb (someone may correct me on this though) - Apps need to be downloaded (for free) through the app store. (eta: safari, mp3, and video is included of course) - Safari is free but you'll need a wifi connection to use the interwebz - No, of course not. It's an ipod - Apps, apps, apps - Nope
Color me the idiot, but does that mean I can use safari anywhere wifi is available, or do I need to pay for a service?
You may see cheaper prices IF it is a generation 1 version. The noticeable difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 is that Gen 2 has volume controls along the side of the Touch. Gen 2 also has external speakers. They are certainly not for listening to music, but if you carry around a video of something, it is a nice convenience. Gen 2 is faster and, I assume, all apps are compatible, whereas, many apps are not compatible with Gen 1. Sam's has the best prices I have seen for the Gen 2, they generally run $214 for an 8GB as opposed to $229 at most places. You may see deals at Best Buy and the like where you pay the full price, but they throw in an iTunes card.
Discover Card is offering the iPod Touch in their point rewards program so I'm ordering a "free" iPod touch as we speek. There is a Panera Bread next door to my business and they offer free wifi, so I think I'll be able to use their wifi for my iPod...right? If you're not near a hot spot there is no way to connect to the Internet?
In order to use Internet on the Touch, you must have a WiFi connection. As long as you can connect to Wifi, you can use all of the Internet features at no additional cost (unless you order Apps, Music, Video, etc via iTunes).
I looked at this as well and I couldn't understand why the itouch could use wifi free of charge, but to have an iphone, you have to pay the stupid fees...
The benefit to the iPhone, is that with the phone service charge, you obviously get the benefits of using a phone, plus you get access to the Internet anywhere youhave service. Does the iPhone only have 3G access and no wireless?
The answer to this is yes if you plan on updating the OS on the player. Apple, from time to time, adds new functionality to iPhones and iPod Touches through OS updates. iPod Touch owners usually have to pay money (like $20) for the updates to get these new features, while updates are free for iPhone users. Updating is not required, though. Just thought I'd mention this since iPod Touch owners are always up in arms about having to pay for updates.
I'll sell you my 16GB iPod touch if you want it (I'm thinking of upgrading to the 16GB iPhone). It retails for $299+tax new..let me know if you're interested.
Both of them use wifi free of charge (like a laptop) but the phone uses the data service so that you can get internet without being near a wifi access point. Like one of those USB adapters/service the cell phone companies offer now.
where the hell did you do that? The only 16GB iphones are the 3G's right? Which are new? Or do you mean an iTouch.. ? (I ask b/c I'm looking to buy a used 2G iPhone 8GB..)
