...into Space aboard Virgin 'Galactic'. http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20051215/sc_space/virgingalacticpartnerswithnewmexicoonspaceport
****. Looks like I'll have to pull some shenanigans to get a trip into space. And **** them for making it so expensive. It irks me to no end that some rich ***** are going to be in space before me.
well come on, virgin and the developers have had to front the entire development of a space infrastructure so naturally they have to recoup their investments. Branson has even said that all profits will go directly into investments for virgin galactic rather than his pocket. Only Richard Branson is nutty enough to do this because it really isn't very profitable to be the first to start an industry like this.
Yeah, I know. It still makes me grumpy though. Maybe I need to start looking into a career as "intergalactic baggage handler." I can use some ex-girlfriends for references.
Doubtful. Simple ballistic rocketry is much less dangerous then a cargo-type space shuttle-esque orbital vehicle. A lot less fuel, and a lot less speed.
So China makes a huge fuss about putting their astronaut in space? We're putting private citizens in space!!! Sweet
I'm happy for New Mexico. They could use the business, but I don't understand why we couldn't offer up some of the vast West Texas land for this. And I wonder about Upham's status in the lexicon in 10 years. Will it carry the weight of, or even surpass Los Alamos? Is it time to buy land in Las Cruces?
The first commercial launch will be a great day for humanity. The 30 year old government monopoly has lost its popular and tech momentum and it's up for the private sector to pick up the slack.
