It sucks that we can't make a good pitch to star players before the season

As we go through the offseason and all the rumors, I really can't wait for the season to start. Even more than just wanting to watch games, I feel it is necessary to get potential good players to want to come.

The team is in a state of flux, where our two best players are basically unknowns at this point. Everyone knows about Yao's questions about his health. But IMO, just as important, no one knows about Kevin Martin. Kevin Martin is one of the best players(if not THE best player) in the NBA right now to never play in an all-star game. He's also often injured, and has pretty bad reputation on defense.

It's unfortunate, but I think the team will be in a much better position to convince that final piece to come after ~30 games. I do believe our team plays much better than on paper. Our young players like Hill, Budinger, and Lee will step up their game. And IF Yao and Martin are both healthy, we could get off to a hot start. And players like Melo or CP3 can certainly see us in a different light. Heck, even if Yao shows that he has nothing left in the tank, at least we can realize that the era is over, and can start thinking how to rebuild.

Here's hoping we get off to a good start, which just may lead to an exciting trade deadline. :)

its not the end of the world. If we can land melo, we have a shot. but I agree, last year was the perfect year to "develop our youth". The lottery was stacked. Instead, we clawed our way into the fringe of the playoffs. Just as I was afraid we would.

Oh well, its good to see our guys have a lot of fight in them, so lets try to stay positive as there is still a chance we get something.

Also I think it will be easier to trade our guys when the season starts and they are reminded by just how many good players this team has.

I'm willing to be patient, because when we sit 1 or 2 in the West by the trade deadline, teams will be begging Morey for just Chase and all of these bandwagon stars will be knocking on the door trying to get in

Its hard for players to see us in a different light when we only get 2 nationally televised games.

Players can afford NBA league pass, and you can't make a pitch to any player who is under contract to another team.

It's very important for this team to start off hot or at least lead the division. This year I think Houston can win the division. I know years past we thought they could but if Yao is truly healthy, I see no reason why we can't win. We know Dallas and SA will be right there but I think we have the depth to win it.

Reeko is right though, it will be hard for others to see how Houston is doing when we only have a 2 or 3 national games. I'm sure all NBA elites have NBA pass though.... ;)

Star players do see the Rocks in a different light. The annual Yao Ming injury and playoff failure puts them in a bad light. Until Yao can play a season or 2 without needing surgery, it is an unattractive destination.

Come on, like that NEVER happens in the NBA. Besides, if the Rockets start off hot, they don't even need to make a pitch. Their play will speak for itself.

As for the whole national TV thing, I don't think it matters either. Players learn about the team when they play us anyway. All we need is Yao and KMart to drop 30 apiece on the Nugs when we play. And that will be worth much more than any national TV appearance.

Yeah, i really dont think Yao will score more than 30points until probably after the all-star break (if at all this season), which is usually very close to the trade deadline.

Reason being...he's gonna need to be EXTREMELY efficient to get to 30 if he's only playing about 20-25mins/game. He'll need to put up at least 15-20 shots (minimum) in that time. He's never gotten the benefit of fouls, so i doubt he'll be getting to the line more than 6-8 times/game.

Probably not thread-worthy, but well-articulated and required a brain to process, so I'll personally let it slide. :p

Unfortunately, not nearly as profound as your amazingly insightful response. I bow to your profound wisdom.

it doesnt mind if the rockets only have 2 or 3 national tv games, because when the rockets takes the first place of the division, everybody are going to look at them.

And I think there is a kind of flexibility on the schedules of national tv games, so if the rockets do well, at the end if the season we could have more games in national TV

I agree. Just look at the respect the Lakers fans give us ever since the 7-game playoff series. Lakers fans are the only fans that actually think of us as a tough win. If they don't respect us, they at least respect Aaron Brooks.

As good as that sounds. That's not going to happen. No way we'll be 1 or 2. But we have good options now and they'll probably get better by feb. We need a trade by Dec though. Having a half-season team is not going to win playoffs
