From what people and the video replays say, the ball was gonna go in anyways. So if Yao didn't goal tend, the ball could've rolled around for a second more and we would've had time to get a shot off. So actually it gave us a chance to win the game.

    oh yeah

but how did he know the ball's gonna go in?
no, it's never a right thing to do.

that is exactly what I thought. After watching the reply of that goaltend on ESPN, I realized that how smart that was. Yao saw that ball was going in, and he had to make a judgement and think what the smartest thing to do: goaltend it and stop the clock. Although it didn't matter after all since SF missed the last shot, we would have won the game if every player could "think" as Yao demonstrated.

I am not sure if he meant to tip it or he just got too excited he forgot about the goal tending rule. But I am just saying, if the ball rolled around and went in, its a good thing he stopped the clock. I am pretty sure Ming didn't mean to do it but its a good thing he did, no one is that quick to think ahead like that.

I don't know. If he did it on purpose, he is super smart. I find it hard to believe that he got so "exited" that he forgot the rules. he played CBA for years, also in Olympic and world championship, this rule is same everywhere. This is not even close to the most important of exciting game he has played, I think.

not really, in international ball games, player is allow to goal tend if the ball is still on the ram.

I wish he was that smart! :)

However, I dont think he meant that. Its just too intense to even think at that moment.

well, if he did it by mistake, I would say that was the best mistake made this afternoon. At least it gave us a last shot.

Nah. According to my observation, politicians are not the smartest people, in China or in U.S.

And let's not underestimate Yao Ming's intellengence.
    :D

Please. Nobody here will say this, but Yao could have been called for goaltending at least 10 times this year. He cuts it very close. So would you if you were that tall. This time he was too clearly over the line.

you are saying almost all his blocks should have been called goaltanding? I don't think so. Obviously, the last goaltending call was correct. But I watch the reply several times, and I have to say that ball was clearly going in. If Yao did not touch it, we would have lost without a last chance. True, maybe he wasn't thinking that fast, but my point is it is not his goaltending that cost us the game.

Nah, the Conspiracy theorists out there would have you believe that they wanted the Rockets to lose and thus called goaltending even if it wasn't going in, just to be sure that the Clippers won.

interesting take on the goal tend, but I think his international instincts took over. No one thinks that fast i don't think.

I remember him saying something about being unclear about the goal tending rules in the NBA as opposed to international ball. he clearly didn't do it on purpose tho. good mistake, however.
