This game is the most biased in terms of refs hating on Yao. Yao attempted two shots in which he got fouled obviously. No calls. Yao is getting fouled on every dunk and layup attempt ,No calls. Getting pushed in the back all the time,No calls! how did yao get 5 fouls? Are you kidding?
yao will be as consistent in the nba if the refs are. simply inexcusable. there is no way he goes from 11 fts, and 16 fts to 1. new jersey centers dont foul? their big men are so much better than the lakers, sacto, minny, raptors....because in all those other games he managed to be fouled enough to get 10 + free throws....but no, not against the mighty nets.
NETS centers suck so bad that they need help from the refs. The only force strong enuf to stop Yao is not named shaq...its the refs.
They foul a lottttttttttt they were like pushing his lower back hips ass area.. I mean..if short guys were doing that..it'd be a foul..lol that sucks for Yao. Oh well..refs someone needs to tell them. lol Mark Cuban would have been outspoken by now if he were involved with us
I agree with all the hatred on the refs. They miss completely blatant fouls, but I wonder why we don't see the other players and/or JVG standing up for his star player? I mean, if it were me, I would be jumping up and down in the refs face yelling at them to make a call. I never see JJ, MoT, TMac, etc totally stand up for their guy.
While unfortunately it's not going to happen, but someone need to just go off on the refs(hopefully with lots of derogatory words) in one of these postgame interviews. It might cost some money and backlash for the short term. But the problem has gone on too long for it not to be addressed.
I agree, but would go farther-- JVG should have shown enough outrage for a T after the second uncalled blatant fowl on Yao.
I wouldn't be surprised if the crew that reffed this game is the same crew that reffed the Miami Heat game last year.
The other teams have figured out many new method to deal with yaoming, meanwhile the referees is creating many new rules to restrict yao..They double yao till he is exhausted. It is horrible. The fact yao must accept is no trouble ,no game.
Yeah, the guards, and JVG to a certain extent, blasted the refs in the media last year and the problem only got much worse. You go public with your gripes and they will blacklist you. Hell, maybe Yao is still suffering from Cat's "r****ded" comments, or Francis' "Bull***" on national tv. Technical fouls are the solution. Show the ref that you are not gonna accept that kind of treatment, throw a hissy fit on the court, kick a ball into the stands. Sadly, actions like that get a ref's attention and he will start to give you some calls.
Well, Phil Jackson complains about the refs on camera every chance he gets, and always gets better calls because of it. I do remember our comments on the refs last year. But then during the playoffs, we never went to Yao in post, prefering the pick & roll play instead. So it's really unclear just how well it worked. After the Lakers game, I actually thought that the refs finally got the message. But then this debacle happened. Yao will never be consistent if he doesn't get consistent calls.
And that's why I hate Phil Jackson. He could simply say,"The Spurs got to the line 48 times while we only got to the line 28 times. That is not enough freethrows." And then they magically got more calls. I hate him because he was clearly catered to. When our guys did it, I remember being screwed over even harder for the next 10-15 games. It was a pretty big issue around here. Also, Pat Riley seemed to also think that the refs were out to get him, and when he said so, he got fewer calls. That's why they should not complain in the media. Only Phil can get away with it.
Ironically, Yao is taking more freethrows this year (8 per game) than last year (5 per game). The truth is that the tightening of the defensive rules have been tougher on big men. The league is putting a premium on playing hands-off defense on the perimeter (no moving screens, no impeding progress) thinking it would increase scoring and speed up the game. In reality, the league is averaging 93 points per game just like last year even though six teams score more than 100 per game compared to only two last season. Also, officials are calling 5 more fouls per game and teams are shooting an average of 6 more freethrows per game and the games are averaging nearly 15 minutes longer. So, what we get is a longer game because we get to watch more free throws. Exciting. The reason big mean are allowed to wrestle so much in the paint is because officials are trying to compensate for having to blow the whistle nearly every time on the perimeter. If a big man is picking up a foul or two extra from moving screens or impeding progress, the refs are trying to give them more leeway in the paint to keep from fouling them out. The problem is that it is in the paint where the fouls that do the most damage and cause the most problems happen.
i can only dream of the day they take away zone defence and bring back mandatory man to man. just the thought of yao and tmac only having one defender on them before they get the ball makes me shudder. this team would absolutly dominate.
how about yao CLEARLY getting hacked on the wrist on one of the first plays and getting a no call from the ref who is looking directly at it 3 feet away as the ball goes short. how does he not blow his whistle? something so blatant like that really needs to be looked into. i'm not saying he's against yao or the rockets but i'd like to hear his explanation.
