No kidding, it is snowing here in the Last Frontier now. Luckily it is supposed to be back in the 60's for the weekend. Too early for winter
Last month i was caught in a hailstorm about 4 hours north east of vancouver. it hailed like a sonovabitch. huge hail stones almost the size of golf balls and crap. Anyways, afterwords, there was about a foot of icy snow type stuff.
When I moved to southern Colorado (8000'), it snowed on Labor Day weekend. I had moved there from Newport Beach. Needless to say, I was a little shocked.
Woke up Thursday morning to a nice bit of snow in the high country of the Sangre de Christos. Gorgeous. Angel Fire received 8 inches. Bodes well for a good ski season here in Northern New Mexico.
I used to live in Eagle River, AK and I remember it snowing my first September there and I couldn't have been more thrilled, being from Houston. After five years there I was over the cold weather, though.
screw that...I'll take hot over cold any day...I kinda like the fact I can play basketball outdoors in December...
word!! (did i just say that?) let the cold weather freaks dig themselves out of snow every morning before work...i'll take hot summers and mild winters every year!
BUT... For some odd reason, I do like the smell that the heater makes the first time it turns on each winter...
We need at least one good freeze every year. This year if we don't have a good hard freeze for a couple of days, the mosquito population in the summer will be terrible. All the rain we've had will not help this matter.
Ah Max, you don't know what you're missing. This is the best time of year... Warm days, cool nights. Snow-capped peaks in the distance. Aspen turning to all kinds of yellow and orange. Elk bugling. Pueblo Feast Days. The anticipation of skiing every weekend. It doesn't get any better than right now.
yeah...waking up thirty minutes early to dig the driveway out of snow...wind biting your ass...putting chains on your tires...yeah...it's a real blast for about a week... nice to visit...glad i don't live in it.
chains on tires? everybody in Utah just has AWD vehicles. And digging your driveway out? cha. They make snowblowers for that stuff (and condos in my case). Hmmm... winters in Utah, leaves changing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, or living the life of the southeasterner... uhhh... football, hating this, hating that, Nascar. Hmmm... tough call. Granted you guys have sweet tea and the Rockets; I have a boob tube and luckily Lipton ships.
Snow is nice for awhile, but gets old fast. I grew up in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, about 100 miles south of the Canada border. It was a miserable experience to say the least. You can't leave your damn house when the weather is like that.
Well it cleared up and is now a balmy 27 degrees here in Fairbanks. But I want indian summer back; according to the calendar it's still officially summer I've got October through May to look forward to snow.
Jeez Max. just because I live in an area where snow is not some mythological substance doesn't mean I live in Buffalo. Not much wind here in the Winter and I've never put chains on my tires because like Achebe said, I just throw it in 4WD. If I have to dig out, that's good, because it probably means a snow day at work and as soon as I dig out I can go carve up powder all day and get paid for it.
