It is 24 High, not ISOs

Can anyone tell me they saw an ISO last night in the 4th quarter? We ran 24 High over and over. 24 High is a high pick-n-roll with either Francis or Mobley that we've been using all season.

Sure, we use a lot of ISOs. But by my count, that number is going down as we are getting better at the pnr.

Many people have yearned for pnrs. "Why can't we do Utah's pnr, or the triangle." Well, you got your wish. Keep your eyes objective. You did not see ISOs in the 4th last night; those are pick-n-rolls.

It was Mobley + Mo and Mobley and Bull right?

Why does Cat do the pause before he commits to the pnr? He should see the floor well enough to know whether or not he wants to go baseline or take the high pnr immediately. [IMG]

what pause? I've never seen Mobley go baseline on 24 High. I see Francis do it, though? Mobley will dribble and wait for the pick. The pick is often smothered by a double, so last night the Mobley and Francis would just dribble in place and wait for the roller to get open, and Utah would leave the double to guard the roller...then and only then would Mobley and Francis dribble into the middle. Is that the pause you see. I thought that "pause" was well done, and necessary.

Remeber, Francis runs this play more than Mobley. But Mobes is getting it called more now. The last play of regulation was 24 High with Francis/Bullard.

I got to go to the game last night and it was only the second game that I got to see. The other was against Utah in Houston, so that's what I thought was how the Rockets play. But last night I only remember a few iso's for Cat or Stevie.

In the fourth Bull was setting the screen for Cat and Cat would drive and take it to the rim. Somehow he would get them in. Or pass them out.

    hpack,

I was wondering if Mobley threatens baseline or something, because he seems to dribble and w/ less comfort towards his picker than I've seen other players (my best ex. since I live in slc might be unfair to mobes) display.

I remember 3 times in a row, though, that he got great shots off (in regulation).

What happened in overtime, I have a huge mental block on ot.

I have noticed less of a pure isolation since Mobley has gotten into the SL. I have always been a big proponent of the pnr offense esp with guards like this team has and thus am very happy with the trend I am seeing. I have no problem with the fact that the offense bogs down a good bit from time to time b/c it is a difficult transition into these type of sets and requires patience and a significant learning curve. This team needs to get used to playing under those conditions like they did against the Knicks, Kings and for most of the Utah game last night because the playoffs are an ugly, brutal affair much similar to those games.

Mobley always uses the picker. It is Francis who will blow off the picker and go baseline. Mobley only goes baseline on 2 Shakes.

I believe the pause is a new thing to combat the double of the pick. It's not even really accurate to call that a trap. Defenses just seem to blow off the picker and go right into a smothering double of the dribbler. Utah would do that, and the roller would get a step or two, but then Utah would leave the double and pick up the roller before he gets necessary separation to be a threat. That's when we saw Mobley/Francis take it to the middle.

This is good. This is us getting more reps and learning the subtle defensive variations and how to be patient.

In overtime, we continued to feature 24 High rather than ISOs.
