It feels as if there's not much to watch the Rockets for

I'm kind of bummed out right now. True, I've felt for a while that this team is going to be in the lottery. But in the back of my heart, I was still hoping they could've gone on a magical run to end the season to make things interesting. And the Spurs/Raptors wins really gave me some hope for it to happen.

But with losses to the Kings and the Pistons, it's pretty clear that all hope is more or less lost. I know we're not mathematically eliminated yet, but it's pretty much over.

The problem, though, is that I don't feel compelled to watch them anymore. Despite being "developing" players, Brooks, Lowry, and Budinger have more or less established their level of play. If they were to make improvements, it would likely be in the offseason, not the last 20 games. Our other rotation players, Scola, Hayes, Martin, Jeffries, and Andersen are not going to change either.

So that leaves only Hill and Taylor as potential "breakout" players, slight chance CBud goes off notwithstanding. But it's unlikely they'll get major minutes unless the Rockets are openly tanking. Which really sucks, because in a mediocre season, it seems there's no sub-plot for me to follow anymore.

Every game, I look forward to our rookies (particularly Hill and Bud) to have a spectacular game. So that keeps me watching.

True, sometimes I find myself watching HBO while the Rockets are on and would rather just watch the movie than change it back to the Rockets.

The last time I felt like this was the 05-06 season. (Now there will be people telling me YOU AREN'T A TRUE ROCKETS FAN!)

Same here, I really hope Hill has forced his way into minutes with that last game he just had.

There's nothing wrong with flipping back and forth thru channels. I would like to see the rookies get more playing time if our playoff chances start to diminish even more.

Well, I never expected much out of this season. Even if we made the playoffs, I didn't expect to see the second round. So this entire season has been about watching our young players develop - and now watch our new guys adapt to the team - and imagine how it will all come together next season. That's enough for me.

It can be difficult when the playoffs seem to be slipping away but this season was all about development. Brooks still has much to improve so his development is key and Scola continues to evolve. The development of Bud and Hill will be a BIG reason I watch and Martin getting more accustomed is another.

Jordan Hill showed some major progress this game, he's really about the only thing to look forward to as the season closes. Can't wait to see Lowry + Hill because you know they're going to run the break like fiends.

I've been disappointed with Kevin "The Ghost" Martin, he's not someone that can create for himself and completely fades in the 3rd/4th. I was really hoping he could fill that "creator" that we needed but its clear that his offensive role should be strictly off-the-ball movement, which he really needs to work on, because he stand around on the perimeter way to often.

Aaron Brooks, he is what he is, a decent shoot-first pg. But he can't be relied on in late-game situations, should be obvious to everyone who's been watching the season.

On the other hand, Scola is playing the best ball of his career right now, I really hope he can maintain that when Yao comes back.

We have been spoiled by watching McGrady and Yao these years.

    We gotta adjust. :(

Basically, the thing I look forward to is A) Seeing how our starters will fit with Yao next year B) How our rookies are developing such as Jordan Hill C) Where we are likely to pick next year.

I've kinda given up on this season already. I don't discount it but I seriously doubt we make the playoffs. So I look for other things to look forward too.

I do not understand why some people keep saying the Rockets are really fun to watch this year, more so than previous seasons. I think they are a little boring to watch. Last year I never missed a game and the 22 win streak before that got me hooked.

Really?!?! You've been disappointed in a guy who has averaged 23 points per game since he was traded her when he's still adapting to our system? Wow.

    This thread is kinda meh...

I watch the Rockets because they are my favorite team, win or lose I support them. I supported them in the Franchise era, the Yao-Mac era, the Injury Era, and now the Brooks-Martin-Scola era. Love the team win or lose...lord knows Astros fans have had to do this.

I won't give up till it's mathematically impossible for the Rockets to continue into the post-season. Don't give up hope. If Portland loses tonight then we didn't lose anything. And if we had to lose then an eastern team is best case. Just think Galaxy Quest.

Never Give Up! Never Surrender! Until it's mathematically impossible in then it that case take five then come back swinging!

This team is, and has been all season, a hell of a lot of fun to watch, win or lose. Sure, I always want them to win, excepting very narrow, rare circumstances like that confronted by a certain coach who's first name is the same as one of the saviors of the Rockets, back when they looked like they might leave, and who's last name rhymes with (van) Gumby. I still want them to win and I'll still be having fun watching the rest of the season. Look at it this way... the summer just got a lot more interesting.

Can Brooks get his average up to 20ppg?

Can Brooks and Martin average 20ppg each?

    Can Hill develop?

Can Budinger get more than 20mpg?

Lots to watch for.....just enjoy the ride.

Please... there's always one reason to watch the Rockets : there's always next year! *

I hope we get something good out of this summer, whether it be through the draft or via free agency. Making the playoffs with this team would be torture.

    * -- excludes the possibility of any Mayan prophecies coming to fruition during the 2012-2013 season.
