The way it sounds is that JVG wants to get younger and quicker, while raising the talent of his supporting class. Here is my two cents, let me know where I made my errors, but I think it could happen. 1. JVG expressed his interst in making a trade before FA starts. a. So I believe they will use the TA+Wesley+Padget to get BWells(who will pick up his player option for one more year)and their 1st round pick. (Memphis has been reported of shopping their pick). 2. Houston uses their 2 first round picks Moochie+Vin+(maybe next years second) and try to get Kidd (if he demands to come here). 3.If we have Kidd+Wells, I believe any number of PF would come here for the Vet. Exp. (SAR, Swift, Antoine Walker). This would give you Kidd, James Wells, Sura Tmac, Barry SAR, J Howard Yao, Mutombo IR. Ward, Spoon
1) You cant aggregate the TE with players to get one player. 2) is that package even close to Kidd's salary? you guys need to give up the Kidd dream..the only way we get him is if they void his contract/buy out...there just is no way the Rox pay 3 players max money.
You didn't make any errors. The Rockets will get Kidd, Bonzi Wells, SAR, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant (reunited), Kevin Garnett and Steve Nash among others. They're fielding an all-star team and the miraculous thing is that CD will do all this with only the mid level exception. At the end of the year CD still doesn't get GM of the year. What a shame
Aren't you supposed to tell us it will happen? Kidd isn't likely for a host of reasons ... but if for some reason they did do it, it "could" pay off, but you run a huge risk on potentially injured goods with a monster contract that could kill the Rockets' roster flexibility during the prime years of Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming.
JVG talked about making BOLD moves, but not hurting the great chemistry we have on the team.. He said BOLD, not crazy.. getting KIDD (TO ME) would be CRAZY!!!
right. the team will look to improve but at the same time try not to move too many chemistry guys (JB, Jho, sura, deke, wesley). i think that wesley is gone and that if there is a great deal available Jho and sura could go too, however i would doubt that we get rid of that many chemistry guys.
My god these trade threads are worst than last season. Just becasue we landed someone like T-mac once doesnt mean it happens every season.
Even a Jason Kidd over 30 and at 50% of what he used to be is better than what we have. You'd be crazy not to take a shot at him even post-injury. That being said, that same Kidd with the contract he has is not something I want to take a shot at. I sincerely hope they don't get Kidd with that contract he has attached to him. Talk about a scary gamble. Antoine Walker? *shudder* Just say no. You think Yao doesn' t see the ball enough now? He may never see it again if we get Walker. I like Bonzi Wells, although he's a hot head. He's hard-nosed and tough. He's also a legit offensive weapon - something we need on this team.
I laughed when I first heard about Kidd too. I understand the sentiment ... sorta like wondering if we could ever get TMac ... get real. But, Kidd has said in the press that he thinks it could get done with expiring contracts. So, I looked at that. We do have around 19 mil of expiring contracts that are dead weight on the bench, seldom playing. We are carrying around that dead weight, which will be over in a year. Earlier, I hoped that would enable us to get another major player, hopefully at PF, but NIKEstrad has made it clear that those expiring contracts will not clear us the cap space to do that, especially since Yao's contract will have a major jump eliminating the significance of that space, and its better for us to keep our MLE for someone rather than lose it. So, basically, unless we use those contracts, they will just be absorbed in Yao's max contract. So, if we are wanting to invest those expiring contracts into something else, what is it we want? Do we really want to add more bad contracts to get a player, such as what some have suggested in getting SAR and taking an overpaid Anderson or JVE, or would we rather have all of that in an overpaid Kidd? Nash was better this year, but Kidd is still second best with bum knees. Kidd would have a similar impact on the Rockets as Nash had this year with PHO. He would be huge. Everyone would get the ball when and where they needed it, and TMac wouldn't have to be the one to setup plays. Kidd has one of the highest BB IQs in the NBA, which would match TMac and Yao, but he also has fire, and could truly be our floor general. I have worried that he might be injured or get old, but he's already there, and still very effective, because it isn't from incredible athleticism, but from seeing the floor and phenomenal passing better than anyone but Nash. That won't go away for the next 4 years, I don't think, and he could be a great teacher to whomever else we get for him to mentor. His contract isn't for 5-8 years, but just 4. Yes, he's overpaid, but having an injured Kidd, even off and on is a hell of a lot better than having the dead contracts we have now, and fills our need better than anyone else on the market, IMHO. Yes, it might take us into Luxury Tax territory, but that'll be the case if we use those expiring contracts to add anyone. We'd obviously need to bring in a rookie, such as Chris Duhon, Jay Williams, or Spanoulis, but, I have to admit, I think we'd have won the championship this year, if we had Kidd, and in 2-5 years, a well mentored rookie could take the major reigns of the team. Just wondering ... I know we have other needs, but that could be interesting, even if its not likely to happen. But, if it actually BECAME available, I'm beginning to think I might not pass on that. Then we could tackle the PF issue and depth. (ESPN's Insider's Chat with Rick Bucher: "All I've said is that is where Jason would like to go. That's a fact. I've also said it's not likely to happen. I find it interesting that he no longer wants to go to Minn or LA, and that Houston is the new hot spot for FAs. Jason is convinced it could happen for expiring contracts. The other point is, he wants out. Don't hate on the messenger.")
OT: regarding your current Eisenhower quote sig, I covered that exact quote a week or so ago in my blog. [dickie_v] Synchronicity, baby! [/dickie_v]
no one wants mooch and vin man...we have so many dead and heavy contracts it's r****ded...i mean witherspoon didn't even see but a handful of minutes in the post season did he? And I believe i heard/read he's going to have the 2nd highest salary next year...given, yao hasn't resigned yet, and things like that, but damn.
I'm somewhat persuaded by sherlock actually. if the choice is to have SAR + some bad contract which gives us basically the same contract situation as Kidd alone, I would prefer kidd... it's not like JHo is not a serviceable PF now...
The question is not, could we get Kidd? With our expiring contracts, I have no doubt we could pull off a deal, without much difficulty. The question is, do we want Kidd? For that, the answer is far more difficult. Do you want to take a high risk shot at a championship this year and next? Knowing full well that TMac and Yao have dynasty potential with the right pieces, probably around year 3 and 4 of Kidds deal? That is a very tough question. Is Kidd, by himself, enough to put us over the hump? Again, tough question. I love the long term potential of this team. If I was making the decisions, I pass on the short fix and go for the long term dynasty. I think the sky is truly the limit for this team and I want to see it through.
I think we should go for D.miles.More defensive talent upfront could maybe stop guards from getting in the hole anytime they get ready which usually keeps yao in foul trouble. I thik if your looking for athletic ability d.miles is a godo start.
