It would be just plain disrespectful if he didn't. I don't think he has the kahunas to do that. No matter how big of a diva you are, it would be really really tough to 1. drag out free agency this long and 2. drag it out exponentially with a one hour decision special. His investment in making this a special is not worth him burning all his bridges to Cleveland and basically Akron. If LeBron is smart enough to work his PR like magic, he is smart enough to know that he can't slap Cleveland in the face on national television.

I think it is obvious he is leaving.

The 1 hr special is so he can save face shed a few tears talking about how it was a difficult decison etc etc etc...

yea on one hand i agree with the OP but on the other...

most people have expected him to stay in cleveland, IF he stays in cleveland the other teams (chi, NY, nj,etc) might be disappointed but they couldn't honestly be shocked. Staying there is the easiest way out, stays cuz its his home, stays for the money, whatever, its just easier. So if you are just going to say what everyone has expected why draw it out and make it a huge spectacle??? this is why i find myself leaning more towards the other opinion. he is going to take the time and use his PR team to try and make it a heartfelt goodbye, almost like a retirement type thing. I dont think he will throw the management under the bus with comments about how he would stay in Cle if he thought the team was as dedicated to winning rings as he was, but it also wouldn't necessarily surprise me. Make the suits in the owners suite the bad guy and take the blame off yourself, not that he owes anyone in cleveland anything, but for his brands sake.

Not obvious at all to me. You can make a good argument for holding this conference for either scenario (staying/leaving).

If he has any shred of love for this game and self-respect, he will stay in Cleveland.

The way I see it, if LeBron was going anywhere but Cleveland, Chris Bosh would still be working on getting a deal done with the team LeBron is going to. The fact that Bosh made his decision public tells me that LeBron is going somewhere that Bosh couldn't/wouldn't go, and that's Cleveland. The only other likely scenario is that they all decided that they would play in Miami together, so the other two announced first, and then LeDiva will announce on his own.

If the proceeds he is raising off this special is going to be donated to CLEAVLAND boys and girls clubs then I can see how this all fits if he is leaving. It makes him look better to go out of his way to raise money for Cleavland if his plan is to go to Newyork with Amare, It will help soften the blow to hand them a check as he leaves them.

That's a great point actually! I think he knew there was going to be a good chance that he was going to leave and he does not want to be hated...

There is no legit reason to hold an hour long press conference for staying or leaving so I don't get why people have come to a conclusion on what is he is doing based on how long the Press Conference is.

maybe. Unless he knew lebron was going to the Knick, in which case he and Amare would not fit well together.

that's a lot of maybe...I don't care anymore. Just make a decision and lets get on with it.

he is NOT going to win in cleveland. they do NOT have another certified all-star.

if he does, it must be the hometown thing that is making him. he really doesn't want to i don't think.

On the other hand, why in the world would you hold a TV special if you're just gonna stay? You'd only do that if you have a big announcement to make...such as going to NY.

LeBron James is a douchebag ... Having a one hour ESPN special to announce where he is going? If he leaves Cleveland, that is a huge screw you to the Cleveland fans. I don't even like Cleveland but the audacity to have a one hour ESPN show just for the ability to jam a hot poker into the Cav's fans is ridiculous. Couple this with his act in the playoffs and LeBron has gone down several notches in my eyes.

And if he doesn't leave Cleveland, it is a huge who gives a crap

Right now, i am betting he is gone, prolly to the Knicks, which hurts the Rockets even more. Look at the links below for why i think this

After 7 years, LeBron FINALLY gets on Facebook and Twitter ?

    LeBron gone
