how the Rockets get no love from the houston media? Basketball is clearly the 3rd sport behind football and baseball. I mean comon the football season is over, it's after the draft, and they still have articles everyday about the texans. The Astros are a 500 team and every day it seems they get 2 articles at least. Clemens comes back and they have a frontpage article in the chronicle, like 4 articles in the Sports section, in addition to the regular game articles. During the Rockets season, we were lucky to even be on the front page of the Sports Section, and all of the Articles weren't nearly as long.
It isnt fair to those of us who love the rockets. however, it is baseball season. so I can understand the baseball talk, and news paper stories. But my God, I hate the Texans! They are a joke. and Im tired of reading about them, and hearing about them on Sports radio. Lets face it. There will never be equality in Houston Sports
wow is there even a point to this guy's post? Reasons why you shouldn't ever become a member 1. Useless banter
I find that houston sports teams gets no love from the national media in general, for example when the astros were in the world series for the first time they got lil or no broadcast time on espn.
First off. let's look at your thread. Astros are getting more headlines maybe because it's baseball season right now? AND THEY WENT TO THE WORLD SERIES LAST YEAR. Texans had the top pick this season.. with several arguements over who they drafted. The Rockets this season were horrible why would anyone want to write about that? Losers do not sell.. that's all the media cares about. AND WAIT BASKETBALL SEASON IS DONE FOR THE ROCKETS AND THE DRAFT ISN'T COMMING UNTIL 25 DAYS... WANT A ROCKET ARTICLE WAIT TILL THEN. Sure I'am mad that the Rockets don't get as much attention.. but oh well.. let them get a chance to win next season then the media will be all over it.
You know, it doesn't bother me at all that the Rockets don't get as much attention as Houston's other sports franchises, but then, I hate it when bands I love make it big too. I like it when the things I love are shared only by a deserving few.
This seems contradictory. If losers don't sell, the Texans should have sold less, cause they lost even more. I think it is more accurate to say, mediocre teams don't sell. Absolutely craptastic teams sell, and very good teams sell...stuck in the middle = BORING. Plus, basketball is the 3rd sport in this city.
First of all, before you go any further, realize that in nearly every MAJOR city in the US... its NFL first, then MLB, then college football/basketball.... THEN the NBA. If you need any help with that, just look at the current media contracts for each of those respective sports. Posts like this are irritating. If you want 24/7 love for your NBA team, move to a podunk town like Utah or Sacramento (or even San Antonio). They're also not talking non-stop about the Bulls in Chicago, about the Celtics in Boston, or about the Sonics in Seattle either... and why the hell should they? The Rockets had the city's heart and endearment from 1993 -~2000... then, the team started sucking, and MMP (then Enron) Field opened, finalizing a dramatic "shift" in sports attention that had been building with the Astros playoff appearences in 1998 and 1999 (and the Rockets continuing to get older, not passing arena referendums, and lacking an identety/star once Hakeem started dwindling). Then, add the fact that Houston gets an NFL franchise (and Texas loves football), and I understand why there was some initial shift in attentions away from the Rockets. But, since then, the Rockets have had PLENTY of opportunities to recapture the city's attention. They had the most unique NBA prospect in the WORLD fall right into their laps, and open up a whole new world of marketing (literally). They got a top 5/MVP calibur player in his prime, for basically nothing. That 2004 run looked like the perfect springboard to a lengthy city-wide infatuation with this team... much like the Rockets run in 1992-93 (where they lost a heartbreaking game 7 to Seattle). But, alas, a whole lot of bad luck occured last year... and when you couple the Astros WS appearence, and the continued infatuation with the NFL, and things aren't gonna be looking good for the Rockets for at least 2 more years (giving one year for the "turanaround improvement" that will have to happen next year, and another one to be legitimate championship contenders).
The NBA is the third (or 4th) sport in most major cities with many options (with the exception of the teams left in the playoffs... mainly because they're the ELITE teams.) And even in those cities... the Dolphins and Cowboys are number 1 in those respective towns, and the Red Wings are basically tied for the attention in Detroit (hockey town). (Phoenix loves the Suns... but the Dbacks did get them more exposure than any other team ever has for them). Thus, even when one of these teams wins a championship... all of them (with the slight exception of Phoenix... who now has a new football stadium, and Matt Leinert) will have their attentions severely tied up with other sports once basketball season ends.
Football is different.. than any other sport. And the Texans had the top pick... Just like the Raptors who are worse than the Rockets.. are getting more attention.
The Rockets were front page news during the off season when they a) Hired a new coach and b) Had the #1 pick. Shouldnt be suprising that the Texans had the same privelege since they are, by far, more popular than the Rockets at this point in time.
Trickz, thats enough input from you...this thread is way too dumb for you to be contributing your highly intellectual posts
